Share your Auburn Trip Story
Our group came from Ruston, ATL, and New Orleans and we had a great time even though we lost. We met up with the aviation organization in AU and their president showed us around. We headed out for pizza for dinner and it was awesome. We went to the 17&16 bar (or 16&17, can't remember) and the Auburn students/fans were very friendly and came up to talk to us regularly. We ended the night a someone's apartment, not sure who...We got back into the hotel room at 3:30am.
Game day, after 4 hours of sleep I was ready to go, I wasn't bad off from Friday night. We headed out and found the La Tech Alumni Association tent. Who ever set that up and who ever cooked, it was a great spot and a great time with great food. We met back up with the Auburn aviation guys at their tailgate. Some of my group was stopped and asked if they wanted to play the bean bag toss game along the way. Some of their fans would ask about our thoughts on the game and start nice conversations. By the time it came to head into the stadium, I was ready for football. My voice was gone by the end of the first quarter, but still tried to make some noise. After the game we stopped by some sandwich shop which was excellent. We encountered our only bad Auburn fan there. We were all pretty wiped after the game. We met back up with an old Auburn grad who was near the Alumni tent who had a widescreen setup. Then we headed over to the post-game show and got some questions in. Thanks for letting us do that by the way guys, it was fun. I can't say enough about the experience we had with their fans, it was great.
Besides the game, it was a great time and recommend going if we play them again. I'm not too worried about the season, our guys are tough enough to move past this game and get ready for Navy. I have already moved on, and can't wait till next Saturday!
How did your weekend go?

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
The classiest opposing fans I have been around EVER! We had so many come up and chit chat with us- showing a HUGE amount of respect to Tech.
Nice place- Just wish we would have come away with the W- On to Navy.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
10:00AM Left Mobile headed for Auburn with the wife and two boys.
10:30 Realized we (I) left the tickets on the kitchen counter.
11:00 Left Mobile (again) headed for Auburn with the wife, two boys and tickets.
3:00 Arrived @ Auburn
3:15 Lemonade @ Toomer's Drugstore and tailgaiing with our Auburn nextdoor neighbors. Lot's of "welcome to Auburn" and "great to have y'all here". Very friendly people.
4:00 LA Tech Alumni tailgating. Great BBQ, the boys loves the chilled fruit. Enjoyed visiting with some friends and fraternity brothers I haven't seen in a while.
5:00 Headed into stadium.
5:20 Bought $40 worth of cokes, popcorn, M&Ms, snocones, etc.
5:40 Saw the Eagle fly. My 5 yr old said it was the coolest thing he's ever seen.
5:50 Auburn marching band pregame, My 5 yr old said it was the coolest thing he's ever seen.
6:00 Kickoff. Enjoyed rootin' for the dawgs with a great group of fans. 5yr old got to use the Tech cheers he's been learning. He thought it was "awesome".
Halftime $20 more worth of snacks.
3rd quarter Game getting out of hand.
4th quarter 2yr old asleep, 5yr old thinks that football games are "the best thing ever".
10:30 Pass through toilet papered Toomer's Corner, leave Auburn for Mobile. 2yr old still asleep, 5yr old still yelling "how 'bout them dawgs" and declares that this was the best thing we've ever done.
10:35 Both boys asleep.
02:00 Arrive home.
Had a blast and would do it again, just would hope for a different outcome on the field.
Go Dawgs.

What he said. Stayed in Opilaka (sp?) at the Fairfield Inn. Rode the shuttle in. Had a great time meeting many AU fans. A lady who works the breakfast buffet also works at AU. She said the Library always has posters about the up coming game and she read the Legend of the Bulldog on the display. Watching the Eagle fly is always good. They say this was the new bird and it seemed disoriented by the crowd and circled the stadium a few more times than normal.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
As I mentioned on another thread I sat in a section reserved for Auburn "Scholarship donors", and other than the ones sitting next to me, didn't have a lot of interaction with them. They were all a bit tense until the TD from the eight yard line. Just before Auburn threw that pass I told the Auburn guy next to me that I hated it when the other team starts inside their five yard line. Seems like Tech always give up a long TD in that situation.
I also was able to park in a lot about a hundred yards from the Tech tent, so I dropped by and got some of that great BBQ. The only person I recognized was Leo Sanford so my wife and I didn't stay very long. I'm sure some of you BBB'ers were there, but I don't know who you are other than Dwayne from Minden and I didn't see him.
I saw Dawgpix on the way to our seats, he was catching the elevator down as we were going up.
I was proud of the amount of blue I saw on the other side of the stadium, and I heard you cheering for the dogs at one point in the first half, which meant y'all made some noise and the 80+ thousand Auburn fans were in a bit of a shocked silence.
The second half wasn't much fun, and I am too old to party, but all in all, I was still glad I went to the game.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
I sat on the upper lever on the 50 yd line, on the home side. Right smack in the middle of all things Auburn. I yelled and cheered just as loud as I could the entire game. The fans around me were great. The guy right in front of me, whose ear I was yelling in all game, and I joked around all night. Got a few "welcome to Auburn" comments also.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
After 5 hours of sleep, I woke up tired and sore from our football game (win!) the night before.
6:30 Leave Minden
12-1 Arrive and drive around Selma (worst town in the world) and look for our Holiday Inn in which we had a free night. After driving up and down the road it was on, all we saw were shotgun houses and abandoned mansions. We call the hotel multiple times, but got put on hold and hung up on. Finally, after they refused to give us directions saying "they don't know exactly where they are", we said screw it, it doesn't exist, let's go to Auburn. Chick Fil A.
2:45ish Find a spot to park at Auburn. Talked with some Tech people, then walked around the stadium seeing what was going on.
4:45pm Walk in Jordan-Hare
4:46pm Awesome place. Good seats.
5:40pm Saw one of the best traditions in college football. Worth the ticket, just for that.
1st Quarter We're in this.
2nd Quarter We got this.
3rd Quarter We're not out of this.
4th Quarter FRUSTRATION.
Postgame Walk around for 30 minutes looking for the truck.
10:30pm Whataburger
1am RamadaInn in Selma (worst town ever)
6:30am leave for Minden
1pm Get to Minden, get ready, go to football.
Now, sleep.

Ditto. Classiest fans/tailgating/everything I've ever seen out of the SEC.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
I can't tell you how many times i was told "welcome to Auburn" or "Welcome to the Plains". It was a VERY warm reception for us and its the reason this was the third trip to Auburn to watch the dawgs.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
It was the best visiting fan experience one could have ever asked for. The people were so polite that it was shocking. They wouldn't even let me wait in line for stuff and had me and my buddy go to the front of the line because we were guests! I didn't meet one mean fan, and actually we were WAY more rowdy in their stadium than they were, and I think some of them were a bit surprised. It took a while to disarm me emotionally because I kept fearing like I was in Baton Rouge for a little while at first. The game drove me nuts and I was pretty disappointed, but I'd go back to Auburn for another game. It was a really nice town.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
We need all of our fans to see this and treat the opposing teams the same way in Ruston. I think for the most part we do, but this just reinforces how much that can mean to their experince.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
I can't say enough good things about my stay in Auburn. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Opelika. It was very nice. Loved the location and their staff. They had red and blue balloons and Tech pompoms in the lobby along with Auburn colors. They had a package of information waiting for Tech fans. Everyone was just top notch. "Welcome to Auburn" "Good Luck" "So happy y'all are here." The people in stores, both shoppers and the helpers were so friendly and welcoming. The staff at the Cock of the Walk was the same. Loved the Tech tailgate - the food was awesome as was the company (y'all know who you are!) and Auburn's campus is really nice. I LOVED their stadium. I would have driven all the way over there just to see that eagle fly around (we need a flying bulldog) - that was just incredible. By far the best and classiest and nicest place and fans of any of the away games I've ever been to. I hope we are treating our visitors exactly the same way. Everyone should be treated so nicely. Truly a good experience (well except for losing) and we had a great weekend and we stopped at the casino AGAIN on the way home and my mother won 300.00 so we are happy we went. It was a great football experience.
NOW ON TO NAVY - GO DAWGS DAMMIT!!

I think you're right, at least in the tailgating areas I think we do a good job of welcoming our "visitors." I hate the redneck high school booing of the opposing team (except maybe Hawaii and Fresno :D) when they take the field at the beginning of the game though. Fun thread. Makes me wish I could have gone.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
Best road trip in a while. First off, let me say how AWESOME the Auburn fans were. When the team buses left all of the AU tailgaters and fans in the street waived and applauded our team on the way out for 2 miles. WOW!
OK, back to the trip. 15 of us rented a "Rock star coach" with a driver included for our 3 day trip. Complete with bar, flat screen TV's, satellite dish, etc. etc.
Here we go:
Thursday
2:00 to 2:30PM- Arrive and load up bus in Ruston.
2:31- Pop the first top.
3:00- Bus rolls out.
7:00- Planned meal in Meridian is cancelled. Unanimous decision for liquid diet that evening. Had snack food and sandwiches on bus so no objections.
10:30- 5 miles from Montgomery, tire blowout!!!
11:00- Hotel vans arrive to pick us up.
11:20- 8 cases of beer and 4 handles of whiskey later we finally arrive at team hotel.
11:45- After checking in we decide to go to the Alley Bar 2 blocks away. Cool place with an "ice bar room" inside. (Freezing room with shots served in ice glasses. Fur coats provided)
12:30AM- Our party is asked to leave. (For the first time)
12:40- We smooth talk our way back in and promise to behave. Still not sure why we had to leave 10 minutes ago.
1:00- Having a great time. Some of us decide to go to the "ice bar". The girl inside sets us up a round. She has a shot herself and throws her ice glass against the wall shattering it. She instructs us to do the same. We follow her lead... all but one of us. He turns around, winds up, and throws it at the other wall. Unfortunately, this wall is a window and not concrete. She is NOT impressed at all and calls the manager. Somehow we stay.
1:30- Two of us are DONE!! Someone volunteers to get them back to the hotel.
1:45- I notice two more of us wearing fur coats from the ice bar in the regular bar. One is zebra striped and the other leopard. This gets a big laughter from the entire bar.
1:50- The same girl from the ice bar comes and demands the coats back. She is NOT happy by now.
2:15- I am told that we have been asked to leave again. We are ready to leave this time.
2:30- On the walk home one of us decides to get a piggy-back ride from another. And he is not prepared nor sees it coming. Both go crashing to the pavement and one hits his head on a concrete lamp post. After we make sure everyone is OK and stop laughing we continue on.
3:00AM- In bed asleep.
Friday
10:00AM- Wake up. Swear to myself that I will never do that again.
10:30- Meet downstairs. Discover that a few of us had the "ralphs" last night and puked everywhere. The rest of us get a big laugh. The guy that hit his head wants to know who whipped his arse. We tell him the story and we all laugh again..except him.
10:45- We leave to play golf at Capitol Hills Golf Club(Robert Trent Jones course)
11:15- Arrive at the golf course and it starts raining. Will not make our 12:00 tee time. Eat lunch there while entertaining and drawing some looks from the other golfers.
1:45PM- We finally tee off. Hung over and stupid we decide to play the "Judge" course from the tips (7800 yards long). We have 3 groups of 4 playing. After watching all of us tee off the golf marshall advises us to finish the round from the front teeboxes. Pride does not allow us to take his advice and several do not even finish their round.
2:30- The hot cart girl comes by serving drinks. After speaking with all 3 of our groups we do not see her for the rest of the day.
4:00- We arrive at a 250 yard par-3 over water. One guy "tin cups" it and hits all of his balls in the water while swearing that he can clear the water. We don't let him borrow any of our golf balls.
6:00- We finally finish our round. Outstanding course by the way. Very beautiful.
6:45- Arrive back at hotel. Shower and get dressed.
7:30- Eat dinner at the Brew House.
9:30- Have a nightcap.
12 Midnight- In bed asleep.
GAME DAY
8:00AM- Wake up, shower, etc.
9-11:00- Eat breakfast, mingle with other Tech fans, players, and coaches.
12:00PM- Eat lunch at Dreamland BBQ. Terrible compared to Hot Rod's ribs.
2:00- Load up on bus and start "tailgating".
2:50- Leave hotel with the team and get police escort to Jordan-Hare. Pretty cool!
3:45- Arrive at JHS and park under stadium. Walked out onto field for a little while.
4-5:30- Tailgated some at Alumni tent and the bus watchin football in the AC.
5:30- Go into stadium from the tunnel.
6-9:00- Saw what everyone else saw. Halftime spent on bus.
10:00- Left with the team and escorts. Very classy Auburn fans on the way out.
11:00- Split with the team in Montgomery. Stopped at a truck stop to refuel and grab a bite to eat.
11:15- Headed home but continuing the "tailgate".
12 Midnight- Someone breaks a man law in the bathroom.
12:02AM- The bus is filled with a mixture of gagging and laughter. We spray Febreeze but it doesn't help.
12:05- The poor hired bus driver pleads to stop and empty the tank at the next truck stop. He has no objections.
2-3AM- Most have fallen asleep by now.
6:45AM- We arrive back in Ruston.
All in all a great trip though. Many more laughs and details will have to be left out. Needless to say, we had a good time.

Really happy you guys had a great time. 99% of our fans are great but that 1% sucks. We have "those" fans, like everyone else.
On a completely random note, I sat with some friends in the endzone next you guys. I was on row 60 so I had a good birds eye of you. Anyway, during the Phil Collins "in the air" song, I watched your section to see how well you did with the air drums... not too bad.... one lady really got into it...
Random? Yes, but hey I always look for the air drummers during that song.

All good until... Second half. Got a speeding ticket in Selma. I thought I saw a kangaroo hopping around in the woods somewhere around Meridian. Got home at 6AM. But, I did make it to Sunday school and church. Now, I'm feeling better... haha

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
Got in late Friday to Embassy Suites in Montgomery...walked over to Dreamland Barbecue, which was very good, and had a bunch of TV's on for FB...good place...got up Sat, visited with lots of Tech folks, then went on my morning jog all around town. I'll say this....I had not been to Montgomery in 30 years, they have really done a nice job cleaning up downtown, it was very pleasant, and the people just went out of there way to make you feel welcome. Left for Auburn about noon, by accident we found the "handicapped" parking for mother-in-law, which was, of course, very close to stadium. People tailgating there got up and came over to ask us if we needed anything--most gracious-then on to Tech alumni tailgating, which was very nice. Did get into a conversation with some Auburn students/workers at the media entrance. They were funny and freindly, and one guy just flat out said he felt Auburn was going to surprise some folks this year...a precursor for things to come--and they certainly looked like that Sat night. Once in the game, it was great..especially the War Eagle "flying"...awesome. They even let me leave the stadium--a no-no in places like that--to get our raingear, as we were told it was about to gullywash(which it didn't of course). After the game--at it's always easy to be nice and humble when you thrash the other guy--I had several people thank us for coming and comment that they thought we had a good squad...yeah, guess that's easy for them to say! Hey, it's a beautiful place, fantastic college town and atmosphere, and certainly could understand someone wanting to go there! Just an overall great place to visit..back to Montgomery by 11:30, to bed...quiet Sun morning, saw a few Tech folks that morning proudly wearing Tech gear, then off on the road..Hwy 80 is good, almost all 4-laned, it's an easy trip, just a long way...glad I went, and for someone who grew up in BR 50 years ago, I can tell you that these smaller town atmospheres with big time FB is way better deal...and they are much more attractive area than BR--Oxford, Auburn, Athens, even Alabama...wow, cool places really...Ruston could be a small version of that if the you know who bandwagonners in Ruston would get behind the Dawgs...That's another story...It was a fantastic experience except for the L...

Besides the game, it was a great time and recommend going if we play them again. I'm not too worried about the season, our guys are tough enough to move past this game and get ready for Navy. I have already moved on, and can't wait till next Saturday!
How did your weekend go?
I was here.
It was a lot less tame than this post indicates.
Friday night was ludicrous.
Saturday included beer funnels, corn whiskey, etc.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
Hey guys, good luck on the rest of the season. I have a feeling that y'all will be able to beat Navy, eventhough they should've beaten Ohio State....Dang, that sounds weird, Navy should've beaten OSU, who would've thought that, lol. If y'all can get past Navy, which I think ya can, I wouldn't be surprised to see only one or two more losses on the schedule (Boise State, eventhough they didn't impress me...at all and LSU, eventhough they have Ole Miss the following week...so, y'all could catch them lookin').
Also, to the '99 Bulldog Kicker, Mr. Wierick I believe, if you post here, I'll bring my Red Man dip next time so you can bum off of me....and some Woodford Reserve that I'll share with ya, lol.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
I thought the trip a real disappointment. The fans were rude, loud and far too much drinking inside the stadium.
I've have heard about Auburn fans from LSU fans and everything they said, sadly is true.

Really?
They were the most respectful and classy fanbase I've ever encountered. Every 20 yards I got, "welcome to Auburn!" and "You guys need a cold beer?"

Shocks me to hear anything negative about those fans. I couldn't go this time but I have been twice and both times I was treated very well. Auburn, Nebraska and Texas A&M have fantastic fans.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
The city of Auburn and its university is the sweetest place for college football in America. Auburn, with its 24,000 students and the city with its 56,000, make for a great atmosphere.
1. My two older sons and I flew into Birmingham and drove the 120 miles to Auburn, seeing rolling hills of lush forest and hundreds of Auburn cars. Arrive in Auburn at noon.
2. Drive around campus, tailgating going on in full swing for a two mile radius around the stadium. Park on NE side.
3. Immediately run into the TechTeamShop guys at their tailgate. Good guys, with great food and very cold beer. Thanks a bunch.
4. We leave to buy beer and park downtown for $10.
5. Tailgate with some Sigma Nu alum next to the north end of the stadium.
6. 2pm tour the team's locker rooms and the playing field. The Auburn locker room is brand new and unbelievable.
7. Walk around and see where the Tiger Walk is set up and look at the red brick baseball field the is the real Field of Dreams.
8. Run into Tech78 in our search for the Tech tent and he leads up there with the help of an Auburn fan.
9. Go to stadium at 5:20.
10. Watch the war eagle fly around the East side of the field and land at the 50 yard line. It was unbelievable to watch. A GREAT tradition.
11. Fun first half ...not so fun second half.
Summary :
1. The campus and city were great. They got some big dollars flowing into the school and the atheltic department. I mean real big dollars.
2. Every fan, that's right every fan, was friendly polite and helpful.
3. During the walk around the campus and tailgating areas, I fell in love 112 times. Southern girls are the best.
4. Auburn, with its 8 home games will win 7 to 8 games this year and go to a bowl.
5. Auburn has a great halfback dual. One strong guy and the other is the fastest guy in the SEC. FYI, the faster guy is a true freshman.

Had a great time at the game. Best road trip I've ever made, everyone made us feel welcome, actually was hugged by one woman.:o Sat right behind Dooley's wife and family, nice people. Overall great trip.

Please note that this saying is definitely not mean spirited. Below is an explanation of our battle cry, "War Eagle." (Kind of long but good explanation!) :)
It is one of the most iconic moments in all of college football: A capacity crowd of nearly 90,000 at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium standing and cheering as a live eagle soars over the field and “War Eagle” is hammered out by the Auburn University Marching Band.
But for newcomers to SEC football, the “War Eagle” phenomenon can also be rather confusing.
Besides, some might ask, aren’t Auburn teams called the Tigers?
The answer, of course, is yes.
But while Aubie, Auburn’s tiger mascot, remains the official symbol of Tiger athletics, “War Eagle” may actually be more synonymous with the university. The “War Eagle” cry, the song and the eagle’s dramatic pregame flight comprise one of the most unique traditions, and one of the most electric moments, in all of college football.
During the first-ever Georgia-Auburn game back in 1892, there was in the crowd an aging Civil War vet. The old solider brought with him that day his pet eagle—a bird he had found on a battlefield during the war, nursed back to health, and eventually adopted as his own. At some point during the game, though, the eagle leapt from the soldier’s arm and soared high above the field. While the eagle hovered overhead, Auburn took the lead with a dramatic touchdown drive, students began pointing at the eagle and chanting “War Eagle!” Auburn won the game, but the poor eagle didn’t have quite as good a day: Legend has it that as soon as the game ended, he took a nosedive onto the field and died. Still, he became an instant legend—and gave birth to the “War Eagle” tradition.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
I forgot to mention one thing, we were in the Kids Zone area and a guy came up to me. Looked pretty official like a representative for Auburn with clipboard and radio. He welcomed me to Auburn and asked if i needed any help or directions. I told him we were gonna hang there for a while and then go to the Tech Tailgate. He then told me how to get there as well as some of the things happening around campus that i might like to see. Ok, not only are the fans great, they have OFFICIALS to make sure you're taken care of.

That's the first explanation I've heard that makes any sense. Apparently, a lot of Auburn fans do not know this.

Thanks to all the LA Tech fans for all the kind words about the Auburn family. My friends and I were discussing after the game what great fans LA Tech has...very classy and proud to be Dawg fans!!! We sat right next to the LA Tech section (in the corner of the end zone) and were very impressed with the support and enthusiasm you showed for your team. Y'all have a great coach and a strong team and will win a lot of games this year. Good luck against Navy!!

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
Hey guys. Auburn student (and lifelong Tiger) here, just wanted to take a minute to say how much I enjoyed reading your comments. I've been to two or three games when LA Tech came to town, and I've been impressed with both the fans and the team each time. Your Bulldogs are not a group to be overlooked, and that's something that's remained constant over the years. I still remember Tim Rattay (sp?) slicing and dicing defenses up and down the field. He was at the helm one of the times you beat Bama, if I remember correctly..but yeah, excellent quarterback.
Oh, and that story about the origin of War Eagle is the one published in the Plainsman some 50 or so years ago, but there are different variations. The one AT posted is the most popular, but I've also heard it was a game against the Carlisle Indians in the 1910s, and that the phrase originally came from local Native American tribes who used the feathers from golden eagles (which is what all of our official mascots have been, including our current one, Nova, though I believe it was the bald eagle Spirit that flew Saturday) as the dressings for their war garments.
There's also a story that is probably more likely, but not nearly as fun to tell, about a pep rally before the Georgia game in 1913. The guy speaking was talking about how it was going to be war out on the field, and then a student who was in the military dropped a metal eagle from his uniform. When he picked it up, someone asked what he had, and he screamed, "It's a War Eagle!"
The main reason I find this story credible, aside from the fact that most such stories are not nearly as extraordinary when they happen as when they are passed on, is that 1913 was a great year for Auburn football. That year's team went 8-0-0, and would later be named national champions by a retrospective computer poll. It just seems likely that a tradition like this would be born in a season like that. Still, I prefer the story of the eagle circling the field to rally the troops, and seeing as none of them are really provable, I choose to believe that one. :icon_razz:
Oh, a side note with regards to retrospective national championships: 5 of the 12 national championships Alabama claims to have won were awarded retrospectively. One of those five was in 1941, when Bama finished third in the SEC and 20th in the AP poll. If Auburn followed the same criteria for claiming national championships, we could claim as many as 7 (1913, 1914, 1957, 1958, 1983, 1993, and 2004), but we only list 1957, the year we won the AP poll, in the media guide.
Sorry, got a little carried away with football stories. War Eagle, Go Bulldogs, and let's all have a great year!
-
Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
First time back a computer. We had a terrific trip, the loss notwithstanding.
My experiences to date with $ec fans had been of the lsu, ark, miss st, fla, & bama varieties. So I was braced for more of the same. But the Auburn fans completely stunned us -- they are absolute class acts!!! We received nothing less than 100% CLASS and RESPECT from every Tiger fan we encountered, before during and after the game.
The Auburn fanbase is a credit to their state and to the entire sport of college football.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story

Anybody know if Southern Miss. has an eagle that flies over their stadium before a game? Their mascot REALLY is a golden eagle.
I wonder when Auburn started the thing with the eagle?

DONW - Auburn's actual mascot is Nova, a six year old golden eagle. The eagle that flew Saturday was named Spirit, a bald eagle. He occasionally stands in for Nova for the pre-game flight.
Both birds are housed by the Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center, which is part of the vet school. The flights started in 2000, and Tiger (our previous golden eagle mascot) flew at the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
This explains it in a nutshell; see this link for a little more detail:

Hope this helps explain things.

Thanks for the info. I wish we had a VET school at Tech. Tech has the best agriculture and animal husbandry school and raises quarter horses, cows and even has a dairy. But, guess where they put the vet school. You guessed it, didn't you, in the middle of the swamps in south La. I guess they treat a lot of alligators and nutria down there. The vet that takes care of our mascot is a Tech grad, but he had to go to LSU for his vet degree. He has a LSU La. license plate on the back of his truck with another LSU plate on the front. I bet you don't have a problem with your alumni supporting Alabama, do you?

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
Commence drive from Hotlanta 12 Noon. Arrive Hooters Newnan, GA 1:30 P.M. - indulge in liquid lunch and Hooters food while we watch Navy-Ohio St and get scared about next week.
Arrive Auburn shortly thereafter. Parking is great; traffic control to the game feels like the Japanese are running it. Auburn fans are gracious. OMG - they have MULTIPLE CLEAN bathrooms set up for fans so that we lose our beer in comfort on the way to the stadium! Meet several clusters of our fans en route to the stadium. Several GO DOGS! - no one threatens to beat us up - or even give us dirty looks.
Arrive at stadium. Continuing the "built and run by Japan" theme, Auburn has GREETERS welcoming us as if we are entering church as visitors - even though some of us loudly cheer GO DAWGS! upon entering. First visit to J-H, sitting on 50 yard line behind Tech bench, a bit of shock and awe involved - makes Tigger Stadium and their fans look second class. Meet Rust's mom, Cuthbert's family and several other Tech fans sitting next to us (SHOUT OUT!). Auburn band marches out on to field using the wall right on front of us. War Eagle circles the stadium and does his thing. The "falconeer" (there's another technical name for it since it's not a falcon but it escapes me right now) brings him in front of us on his arm close up - pretty darn cool.
Game good for 2.5 quarters - lots of high fives, GO DAWGS going around. The guys in orange surrounding us are really cool about it. 3d Q - 96 yard TD hits - crap, I need some REAL refreshment now - CRAP again, friend next to me (Georgia guy who has been yelling for TECH since early second Q) got depressed from 96 yard TD and killed the majority of my previously well-preserved flask of Jim Beam in one friggin' drink. Orange-shirted guy feels my pain and fortifies my Coke.
Stay for awhile longer - we start to get shoved around. See true freshmen come in and get the majority of the touches. Start to head out with 3 minutes to go. One guy screams "war eagle" in my face, but for 80,000 orange fans, one drunk coed ain't bad. Cross busy road (in the middle of the block) by Ag Building - orange flags on vehicles actually stop and allow us to pass. Reach vehicle after forced marched initiated by Wife, who wants to "use a real bathroom".
Arrive vehicle. We speed out of the stadium vicinity - apparently, the Japanese are still running things, because we are on I-85 within 10 minutes of putting the key in the ignition (DISCLAIMER - we have a Designated Driver). Home to the Blue Ridge foothills 1 a.m. EST.
Not incredibly happy with the score. HOWEVER - When I went, I had no idea what to expect. Afterwards, I have decided that these guys - of any other in the SEC (and I have been to many Arkansas, Ole Piss, BR-Community College, etc games) are our role model for game day experience and fan behavior. They set the bar for the SEC - bar none. Not envy - just respect for what they have accomplished in regards to the game day experience and treatment of visiting fans. What a well-oiled machine in regards to the stadium, tailgating, traffic, and anything else within 10 miles on game day.

I'm a member of SECTalk.com (a site almost identical to this, just about SEC sports). One of our members posted a link to this thread. I'm very flattered and glad to hear that the overwhelming majority of you Tech fans had a great time wile in Auburn. I have much respect for the Bulldogs, your guys gave my Tigers a hell of a game and fought their hearts out for 4 quarters. Coach Dooley is doing an outstanding job building your program up. Good luck the rest of the way through the season.

I will echo most of the sentiments already posted. I had a great time. ALL of the sober Auburn fans were extremely nice. Almost all of the drunks were nice too!
Beautiful town and campus. Nice folks.
My only complaint had nothing to do with Auburn fans. I drove 7 hours and my seat was by the only corndog within a 100 miles. Dude was wearing a TECH hat and an lsu jersey:shocked2: and apparently got his ticket from the administration. Sooner and our boys almost busted a gut laughing when they saw who my seat-mate was. None of them offered to trade seats with me. We all were cordial though.:)

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
Yeah, the corndogs tell me that Auburn is the meanest place they ever travel, but I think that's just a reaction to the typical asshole-ishness that comes from LSUcks fans. I did actually dress up a corndog buddy of mine in some Tech blue to come with me to the game, and that all went well. We both had a great time in Auburn.... except for the fact that I caught the damn SWINE FLU!!!! He didn't get it somehow, but my girlfriend and I are both doing terribly this week. Fun times...

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
I wanted to thank all of the Auburn fans and the University for putting on one of the best game day experiences in college football. The only thing that I haven't seen mentioned here yet is how awesome the Auburn band was and how it added to the game experience.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story
We very much appreciate the kind words. The Auburn Family has always taken pride in sportsmanship and class. The group of Bulldogs I met seemed to take pride in the same.
I apologize if this was posted before but, if not, I thought you might enjoy it (again).
Spirit took a quick look at the student section but, after seeing that all was good, turned her attention to the visitor section. No problems there but she seemed to sense something. It must have been the few corndogs described in earlier posts. First pass showed that all was well but she still had the "feeling". One more pass and still no problems. Nothing but good people supporting their team. She took a look outside the stadium but, soon after, returned again to find that corndog. Finally she saw them but, after quickly determining that the Bulldogs had them well in check, decided that it was football time. What better way to announce that then to split the uprights and land on the 50. Good Times.
Thanks for making the trip to Auburn.
P.S.
To the Bulldogs who I met at the hotel at 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning, and then met again while they were opening the "1st" beer of the day at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, you're stronger than I.
