I don't think he'll ever sniff the field. It's not like Dooley gave him a scholarship. I hope it works out for him, but seems like a dumb football move--from the outside looking in....

He (Raulston) was the No. 39-rated pro-style quarterback in 2009 per Rivals.com. The Fort Worth product also considered Air Force, Kansas State, Houston and Utah out of college.
Remind me again why we didn't have room for a 3-star QB at LA Tech? :shocked2:

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
HD, I honestly don't know. I was sad to see Doak go as well. We need to go ahead and sign 2 QB's this year and pick up another JUCO, because if TB chooses baseball in the future we're going to be hurting.

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
I think TF wants a QB who can run and pass. His system I guess...
-
Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
Exactly revf and Doak didn't feel he was going to get the go ahead over guys like TB and Colby for that reason. But I still think he would have fit the system. But I guess he and the coaches didn't feel that way.

He ran for 840 yards his senior year and was a sprinter on the track team.

Based on what SD told our group he felt that Doak jumped the gun on transferring and that in the end he would have made a good QB in our system...

So, it wasn't TF, it was Doak.

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
I think Doak and family were so upset and the number of reps he got in the spring game, they made a very reactionary move without looking at the big picture. I don't think Doak ever got de-recruited, as the coaches would say...

Ultimately it is was his/his family's decision for him to transfer - and as Zharkins mentioned, Granpaw was very upset with the reps he got in the spring game - VERY VOCAL about it
Everyone was basically back to SQUARE ONE with the new staff and I don't think that sat very well

What the hell they though was going to happen with a new offensive staff coming in?

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
Very poorly handled by our coaches and a very dumb move by Doak. Doak will never see the field at Tennessee. Everybody lost.

Disagree with the first part, but dead on on the second. I think he and his family thought he was Joe Montana. We are going to have a good TEAM this year. Doak and Granpaw where more worried about Doak than the team.
He will doing fine hold DD's clipboard at Tenn.

What could the coaches have done differently? I think him going to Tennessee tells you all you need to know. If he had made a lateral move, then you could say he thought he didn't get a fair shake, but heading to Tennessee makes it appear more like Chad Beverage 2.0 than something being mishandled by coaches. If anything was done wrong, it was the fact that this kid and his family were built up so much by T.J. that they had unrealistic expectations and couldn't face reality. So what do they do? They follow the guy that built up the expectations.

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
I met grandpa last year. He was extremely convinced that Doak would start this year. Considered his grandson to be the best thing that ever happened at Tech.
Nice enough but completely bought into the Dooley cult.

Granpaw didn't mind coming on the board and trashing the other qb's on our roster--think that might indicate a lack of discretion on their part?

As opposed to just random people trashing the other qb's on our roster...
Best of luck to the young man.

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
I think Doak did the right thing. He was a game manager ala Ross and Colby. I also think Dooley did the right thing bringing him over to Tennessee. He must have recruited him really hard while he was at Tech and made some promises to Doak. He fits the Tennessee system better than this one. Franklin's best offenses are with dual-threat QB's.

Franklin may prefer dual threat QBs but he will work with what we have. I have a hard time believing that if a good QB was on the roster but not mobile enough for the system that we wouldn't adjust it.

I have to agree with you, Boxer. I think it's in poor taste and bad sportsmanship for the grandfather of one of our QB's to verbally and publically trash his grandson's teammates.

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
Doaks family was very nice, but did believe he was not given a fair shot. Good luck at Tennessee. He will become the starter.
-
Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
I thought Doak was our future at starter after this year, but if he would jump ship because of a lack of playing time as a RS Freshman.......well lets just wish him the best and call it even.
-
Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
Sad to see him go. Hope his career takes off at Tennessee.

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
I don't know why people are concerned about a 3* red shirt freshman quarterback. One who has yet to prove anything but that he and his family are high maintenance. Most RS Fr do not expect to start. Tech history and many other universities around the college are littered with 3* who did not amount to a hill of beans. Personally I don't want a kid/family who feels entitled. I am sad he made the decision to transfer but I am not going to lose any sleep over him.

Weird dream last night thanks to this thread. I hardly slept in the hospital for the month I was there, and am finally starting to sleep better, but with that comes some crazy dreams. Last night, I dreamed I read on here that Dooley was coming in town to take Creer to lunch. I was livid that he might be trying to steal him away, so I ambushed him outside some building (didn't recognize it) and was bombarding him with water bottles and other stuff that I can't remember telling him to leave our players alone. Turns out he was meeting some short, bald man that I didn't recognize. Don't know what that means. Just thought it interesting.

I think it was a sex dream. The short bald man was a phallic symbol. Were you throwing water from within some bushes?

That's kinda how I viewed it too! Now, he falls under the Tuminello category, imo...
Have you ever seen somebody get so impatient at a train crossing that they take the long way around? 75% of the time they'd be better off just waiting for the train to pass.
Both Doak and Houston are talented kids but, for some reason or another, each thought he should be the "man" bf the coaches deemed it necessary.

Re: Doak Raulston to Tennessee
I think Doak saw the writing on the wall when they brought in the JC QB. That can easily be taken as an insult or a vote of no confidence. Why do you need a JC QB when you have your future in a RS Freshman?

Why bring in any new players? The JUCO still has 3 years left, right?
Even if you've got "the future" at a certain position, you're still going to recruit that position. Even if it means bringing in a player with (just) one year less to play than the expected leader.
Depth. Competition. That's why you'd bring in a guy with 3 years left to play when you already have one with 4 years left.

Here's the "skinny" from Mrs. OLDBLUE (dream interpreter extratrdinaire):
Showing insecurity or genuine concern for your alma mater's welfare, or more likely both.
The Bald fellow - she giggled then indicated you made your point and things went right, but with that the giggle (her's)..., maybe Guiss is on to something??

Just the opposite of Reddawg, I AGREE with the first part and might disagree with the 2nd. I watched Tennessee's spring game, and they've got NO talent at QB this year, so this just might be a good move for Doak. Especially if Dooley likes him.
Having said that, I also know that UT & Dooley will likely recruit some big gun QB's while Doak sits out his transfer year.

I am sure that SD did the classy thing and released him huh. On one hand I hope he does well. On the other, I kinda hope that Granpa pops off to DD and gets put in his place. If he is so capable of telling where the true talent is, then why isn't he coaching somewhere?

He would have had to for him to be able to practice with the team, right? What's the rule on that?

I don't know what grandpa did or didn't say, but he was a starting QB at Texas. Although he probably looks at his grandson through rose colored glasses, I suspect he does have a little more football knowledge than most of us, myself included, that post on this board.

Good point, although, there are many analysts and others who have football experience at all levels who don't seem to know more than others who have only played at the high school level.
