Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
It's hard for this board to get new blood when new members cannot post. I'm not a savvy on the code end, so I don't know how to fix it.
Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
It sounds to me like FIU may have had some set-backs even from the progress they made last season (you know, when they beat us, for one). Lost lots of contributors in the portal, still revamping towards a legit FBS program under MacIntyr. Butch clearly had a lot of issues with the administration, but they made some changes there as well. MacIntyr managed to win at SJSU (as we know all too well) so he's turned things around before. I'm hoping (at least when it comes to playing us) that the hole he's digging out of is pretty deep (for the sake of the conference I hope it does turn it around eventually - just not against us).
It's not great that our very good RB is out (and what looked to be the #2 guy as well). I'm really disappointed about Squirrel not being able to play, I thought he would be perfect in an Air Raid offense, but naturally his health needs to come first. If we have to play underclassmen somewhere, RB is probably the least bad place.
Heat will be brutal, probably worse for them. It would be nice to get off to an undefeated overall and conference record.
Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
I've never been this disinterested in an upcoming Tech football season in my life -
Honestly, I could basically care less about it
The past two/three years have basically ruined college athletics for me -
I've gone from holding 13 season tickets in football to FOUR
10 season basketball season tickets to FOUR (and I may reduce that to TWO this year)
Dropped season wbb season tickets in total
Still have my baseball season tickets and two softball tickets
Haven't increased my LTAC giving in over 4 years
I don't tailgate anymore because the powers that be ruined it
IF I go to the games I arrive about 30 minutes prior to kickoff
I will never give a DIME towards NIL and I'm strongly considering reducing my LTAC to the absolute minimum to maintain my seating privileges
In the past 5 to 6 years TECH has repeatedly shown with their actions that they only cater to the highest level of donors and that folks like me are overlooked and taken for granted (oh he will pay this 20% increase and not bat an eye, etal)
I'm to the point I just don't care
Add up the money I was spending annually, compared to what I'm spending now - that's a decent hit to the bottom line
And it there are just 100 more feeling like I'm feeling that's over $70k annually out of a thin athletic budget already

I'm looking forward to calling the Oral Alumni Project today and leaving more or less this as my story.
Tech had great fans and ruined them all.

Apparently RBs for this game aren't underclassmen, just back-ups. Time to step up men. Steal that starting job.
Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
Lotta hits to Tech athletics over the last few years. Some self-inflicted like y'all have said. Some external like NIL/Transfer Portal/One-time transfer rule and COVID and 9 teams leaving the conference.
I just wish we could get a little break from bad Tech Athletics news. Just today this business about a CUSA grant of rights deal drops (right before real football starts!). I CANNOT fathom why we would agree to increasing a commitment to this conference with this group of schools. It just doesn't make sense. None of us care that we're in a conference together (other than UTEP/NMSU and WKU/MTSU). If we have any chance to get out, why agree to make it harder? If someone else gets a chance to leave, what school in this group can we really not live without???
Even if the media deal was contingent on this, you can't sign off, right? Just walk away (I hate that deal and the mid-week games anyway, you add another negative factor and that breaks the deal). How? Why? What the heck????
Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
I agree DFM, I have cancelled streaming services and am contemplating getting an HD antenna. Whatever I get is all I watch. No extra effort.
Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
Kinda in the same boat. It's not just disinterest for Tech though. It's the entire college athletic landscape. Realignment, NIL, portal etc ruins the rivalries and tradition of college football. How can players learn to hate a rival if half your team is new every year? How can rivalries survive, when we throw them out the window for some extra TV money? What would happen if Alabama/Auburn, Michigan/Ohio State, Texas/Texas A&M stopped playing. Oh wait the Texas/Texas A&M one already stopped. Who is our rival? Do we even have one anymore? I'll make some games this year. Not sitting in the heat this weekend. Getting too old for that. The entire landscape is frustrating. Here's to 12-0. Go Dawgs!

From where I once was supporting all the major sports back in the days when Tech was legitimately competitive I’ve only got 3 baseball season tickets left and they’re on their last chance this season to see if Burroughs and his staff can smarten up. Sadly, I’m coming to the realization like it sounds for so many is that I care less and less how pathetic our athletic department is.
Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
College athletics is dying unless you are a top 36 athletic program. NIL, transfers, coaching salaries, silly conference realignment….it is all a huge negative that is killing a great thing.
I may go to a game….I may not. It simply is no longer worth the time and money investment required. Talk to any SBC, CUSA fan and the response is the same….total loss of interest.
With this heat and opponent, there will not be 7,000 people at JAS this Saturday.

I may go to a game.
That's the way I am. I'm giving to LTAC, but only because of baseball. I'll give LB a year to turn it around before I'm done with LTAC giving.
IMO, when things sift out the have nots will be playing each other again like we were in the 1AA days and before. Took longer to "mandate mediocrity" than FJ thought. He tried, but his two successors were not as committed to Tech Athletics as he was.
Re: Game Week Tech vs. FIU
I hope someone learned from the opener a while back when the temps were in the 90s. The concessions ran out of water in the first flipping quarter.
If something like that happens again--with all the 100+ degree day reminders we've had--it would be beyond gross negligence.

I hate this so much. I just can't see why you'd over-commit to this conference. Even if ESPN insisted on it before our media deal - I hate the media deal, too. Just walk. Or at least try to negotiate something better. The only hope we had was more movement and a way out before we spent five years playing our Octobers on weeknights. Even if it was a slim hope, it's about all we had.

I am just as excited as always! GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!
