Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future
From today's Monroe News Star

"RUSTON — Now that Louisiana Tech's season is complete, the big question for the Bulldogs' football program concerns the status of head coach Jack Bicknell."
Jim Oakes' quote
"He has obviously done a great job and to do what they did Friday night was a huge accomplishment," Oakes said. "We'll sit down after the dust settles and talk about the future. I can't say enough about what he and his staff have done. I hope he's our head coach for some time to come."
Looks like he's secured another renewal . . .
Re: Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future
I have no problem with a renewal as LONG as it is structured properly -
Now is the time to shift some of the incentives to attendance, season ticket sales and single game ticket sales combined with wins/losses and graduation rates....
If its good enough for Mike Price and Dan Hawkins - its good enough for Jack Bicknell...

DITTO - we need the whole package
Re: Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future
And everyone knows how big a fan of JBIII I am - just can't have a coach trying to recruit in football on a one year contract in today's market -
It also needs a validation clause - just because of a winning season - all the W/L bonuses don't get in - you have to validate the next year - much like a birdie in a golf SKINS game -
If structured properly - if could benefit both Jack and Tech and the proper clauses will allow an easy buy-out from our end - in stead of having to eat the entire contract -
And please - I'm only talking adding another year with a roll-over clause -
No FIVE year deals -

Translation - Now we don't have to worry about hiring someone else. I can focus on WBB.
Were were his huge accomplishments against Boise, Nevada, and Kansas? Were were they last year against Hawaii and UTEP?
We have OFFICIALLY settled for mediocrity.

Dwayne you know good and well that the above will not happen.
Look for Bic to sign a 3 year extention, maybe get a 5% pay increase and some bonus opportunities based on "winning seasons", or should I say, "Non-losing seasons"?, and bowl births (not bowl wins).

I am glad its official - I guess I will go out today and maybe sell something and if I don't - well what can I expect , guess that will be good enough, after all, I made the effort---right?
Re: Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future

Re: Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future

Last year, or the year before, id be spittin nails right now.
Fast forward to today; I fully expected this. Even if we would have lost to Fresno, Jack wasnt going anywhere.
Jack looks like he is going to be coach at Tech for a long, long time....

he is just trying to say the right thing in the media. bicknell wont get the extension he wants and he will look for another job.
i hope.
Re: Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future
For two years, I have heard nothing on this board but to FIRE JACK! Now, some of you are saying that it will be fine to give him an extension.
The attendance and marketing is J.O.'s job. The WINNING is Jack's job. We have the talent and we get it together for one (sometimes more) game a year. We knocked off Fresno this year for our "big" game. There is no fight in us when we play teams like Florida, that school in Baton Rouge, or even KANSAS! We lose games that we should win and we don't show up for most bcs games. Jack is NOT consistent.
Jack needs to go. I am shocked that once the opportunity is here that we are keeping him. More surprising, however, is the flip flopping on this board about him.
Re: Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future
I'm not flip flopping. I'd like to see him let go.
Its just not going to happen. Im just telling you how it is.
Re: Bicknell, Tech officials to talk future
Well, if Jacky Pooh gets a contract extension then I'm officially through with Tech until he's gone. I've had it, I can't take anymore of the pathetic approach our admin has to athletics. Our Prez and AD are a joke and our athletic council probably couldn't tell you the difference b/w a fumble and a field goal. Let the madness begin......

We know what is probably coming down the pipe - after all we know the spots of the leopards that are running this show -
I have no problem with the extension IF its done correctly (and Alta's right, it probably won't be) - you can't fire a coach at a school like Tech for going 6-6 and 7-4 over the past two years with two wins over ranked teams -
You just can't - it doesn't make you look good in the realm of college atletics - the time to get rid of him was after the Rice debacle in 2003 - unfortunately our adminsitration didn't have the nads to do it then - now they can't -
I still think that one day Jack will probably be a fairly decent head coach - he is just taking his lumps on our dime -
However - now is the time for the administration to show some backbone and get the incentives and clauses they NEED into that contract - they still have the upper hand - Jack still doesn't have another job and if he leaves it will be for more money cause Buffalo can probably pay more -
