30 wins and making the CUSA tournament seems like a reasonable goal. As always, it's all about pitching.

Re: Baseball preseason polls, honors, breakdowns
Much more difficult schedule this year -
30 wins would be significant
Got to be able to hit the ball also, can we hit

Heard today we lost another guy who was a forced roster spot so we are now short at least two spots on the roster. Based on this and our HC's history of panic coaching we'll do well to win 20.
I'm sure he, our AD, and other SLC fans will blame it on Goff going heavy juco.

What the heck is a "forced roster spot"?

Anybody who receives a scholarship must be include on the roster. Apparently our coach gave a 'ship (partial) to two incoming freshman. One quit in the fall because he didn't want to be pitcher only. Our coach is doing his best to run the other one off.
15.5.1 (a) says that a player who receives athletic aid becomes a counter for the year in which he receives the aid.
17.2.8.3 says a student-athlete who is a counter (per Bylaw 15.5.1) must be included in the 35 man varsity squad limit.
So everyone who has had a scholarship must be on the 35 man roster.

Based on what I'm reading this promises to be another mediocre year for the Diamond Dawgs. :(
Might as well make it a clean sweep...
Football 7-6
Both Hoops' teams struggling to finish above .500
Baseball? embrace the suck!

I don't think Zulli was a good fit and blame him for our struggles and lack of approach last year. I really think Creel will be on the same page as Burroughs and it will pay off, hopefully with less Ks and more hits!

PD this is normal stuff for baseball rosters everywhere. We have a great staff and think it will be a fun year, tough schedule, but I like the mix of returners and new comers.

The only good sport we have left is softball, and they stumbled out of the gate.
Let's incorporate our rugby team! Perennial Gulf States champions.

You heard this where?
The only excuse for a counter not being active on the roster is injury. Otherwise it is a really bad fail by the HC. It is the HC's job to fill the roster. Certainly not normal for the roster to be short.

Re: Baseball preseason polls, honors, breakdowns
Normal for there to be 45 players to be competing for 35 spots. Also for players to transfer when they learn they aren’t going to play much or to get cut if they are walk-instead or even scholarship guys to get down to the number. I don’t know anything about a short roster or why that would be the case.

I explained it in an early post on this thread. If a guy is on scholarship he is a "counter" toward the 35. Our coach is giving scholarships to freshmen pitchers out of high school. So far at least two of them are gone. Maybe more.
