Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
The Tech logo on the icon doesn't really look natural to me. It might look better without the state T on there at all.
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
ok i guess my logo went out the window . . . i like the bulldog but not the tech logo placement
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
First I am not part of the Blue so my opinion does not mean a whole lot here but here it is.
The "Dawg" logo looks nice BUT it does not give the Blue any recognition. (ex. The Coca Cola "wave" is known around the world. But would it have been known if the words Coca Cola where not written next to it? or The NBC peacock is very recognizable but I don't think people would associate the peacock with NBC unless the original advertising had, which they did, NBC written above the peacock. what about all car manufactures and their emblems?) My point is people need to know who you are. If the name of your group is "the Blue" it needs to be used.
So why not incorporate both logos together? Maybe take the state T off of the Dawg and put jfords logo above the dawg and together they make one logo?

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
I was under the impression that the Blue has already voted on an official logo?

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
yea the one i made we decided it at that meeting you were unable to attend.

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
That's why I sent out the email.. to get yall's feedback.... Personally feel we need an iconic picture that will represent us.. see Litemans post.. I totally agree with what he said, we use both the logo that says "the Blue" in conjunction with the Dawg. IMO. However I'm not a dictator, so well see how it goes over with everyone... Just a fun fact, every major ports team in baseball football and basketball has their name in their own font as well as a logo. the J-E-T-S are the only ones that spell their name out in their logo.

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
I am kind of confused on what yes and no means and what is happening to the agreed upon logo. Are we keeping the one from the meeting? Does the icon have any impact on the logo?

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
i don't care what we do with it ya'll just have to ler me know so i can re-do the site templates i made

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Aight so I like the bulldog but I stand by my previous statement that I don't like the state T on the bulldog.
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
me either the state t is misplaced but i like the dog it just needs one or two things fixed about it
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Yeah, I redid some stuff today... looking better all the time...

Speaking of brands and images, I thought I was looking at a New England Patriot helmet logo at first.
For what it's worth, guys, it does grow on me, though. Keep on keeping on.

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Seeing how the Dawg was done, and if you want to incorporate "the Blue", which I think is wise since the dawg itself doesn't signify "the blue", thi is a roughlook at how I would make it. Now I know this doesn't look great, but I am no graphic designer.:icon_wink I would slide "the Blue" logo in under the Dawg like this. I would also get rid of the state and t from the dawg. I know I left the "the" off, but I couldn't figure out how to rotate it in photoshop, but you should get the idea.

so you know how to rotate it, its under edit, then transform.

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
That is a really nice looking logo. It reminds me of the Patriots logo.
One thing you may want to consider is that right now (assuming you loose the state-T logo) is that you will only have the one piece of red for the collar. I don't know if it costs extra to print in two colors versus just one color (on a t-shirt) but if it does you may want to just go with a blue and white (or whatever background color) collar.
Or you could add some more red. Although the red collar does look good and may be worth it to keep it there. Maybe you could print "The" in red or something.
Anyway, just wanted to chime in and say that it looks really great!

All good ideas that we have done/are doing to make the dog what will eventually be a shirt/document/advertisement ready logo. Yall's comments are really great, so keep them coming and we'll keep rolling out prototypes!

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Hey guys! Sorry it's been so long since I posted but it wouldn't let me on the site forever! Anyhow....I'm loving the dog you guys have chosen...it looks great! I also agree with the fact that our logo should be recognizable by everyone, not only at TECH, but everyone in the WAC!

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Here's a bit of an update on the logo and the dog/dawg:
http://alumni.the-blue.org/images/theblueanddog.jpg
the font used is Steiner.
Let's here the suggestions...

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
I suggest "hear" to replace "here." The logo looks good though.

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
the ony thing that bothers me is the space by the bulldogs shoulder between the collar and the shoulder
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
The T on the state sign thingy looks like it's just put there as a space holder...not like it's really important. And I agree with Jen about the collar and shoulder space. However, other than that i like it a lot!
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Yeah, close up that gap and we're good... Try putting the dog ontop of the font...
"T"
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Yeah, try putting the dawg on top of the font like I was trying to do.:icon_wink
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Here's the old one, I personally think it gives balance having the logo on top, because of the gap under the hind portion of the Dog, and I could not get the way Firedog suggested it to look good.

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
nah dude i like it much better on the bottom it is more balanced . . . and sorry for pointing out the space by the collar but it was KILLING ME!!!
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
oh man! i really like the font on the bottom!

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
i think you should close the space between the dog and the letters . . . i tried to do something with the font of the logo that was choosen and also i moved the dog so his front paw is on top of the state t and i left the font alone on the other one
-

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
My brother told me he and his wife have some suggestions. First before using the State T logo we need to get it oked through Tech. Second he says "i do like the concept of Blue under the dawg, with the Bl fitting in that notch behind the shoulder... someone just needs to work better to get a nicer font and adjust things to get it to fit."
Finally his wife adds get rid of the drop shadow because "dropshadows are stupid."
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
yea jford please e-mail me the psd of it b/c i hate that drop shadowand the stroke and i wanted to get rid of it. Thanks
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
Do we want to ask for permission to use the state T? That should be done sooner than later.
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
see i thought we were not using it in my original design of our logo thats why i didn't use it but i mean maybe we should do that before the final design goes up since it is a trademark and it is copyrighted . . .

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
From the lips of someone in TECH administration a few months ago when I asked the same question...
"What are they going to do?? Sue some of their most loyal TECH fans??"
That said, better safe then sorry... ask away.

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
as an official Tech organization, why would we have to ask permission to use a logo of our parent organization?
Jen... the stroke and drop shadow IMO make it look less like wordart from microsoft word. also, when you look at a font that is college or school like it has a white line around the outside. Not to pull Quang into this, but if you notice on his logo for BBB there is a drop shadow, it gives an image an extra dimension.

Official or unofficial, institutional approval is normal.

i think the huge emboss does that but with printing that onto shirts the drop shadow would have to be eliminated but i still need the psd for the blues site since i am working on it when i get time to when i am at work on breaks

Being a student organization does not give you the ability to use Tech logos without permission. Been there, done that. You can probably get permission if you ask, but I'd ask just to be sure.
And the drop shadow also makes it look more 1980s. Lots of people think they make things look more designed, but I think overdesigned might be a better way to think of it. That's 2 graphic designers (Jen_Leigh and my wife) that think it's a bad idea to put the dropshadows on there.

Hmm....that's a good idea. I wonder who thought about that. :D
But I am no graphic designer. :icon_wink

Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
haha!!! I'm trying to find a nicer font!
-
Re: The Blue icon... work in progress...
It's easy to get permission for the logo...there is a form on the Tech website that you can use...you simply choose the one you want (solid black or blue/red or whatever...there's several) and then state your reason for using it...when the form is approved (usually within 24 hours) you'll receive an email with the logo attached...I asked for 3 different logos when making fliers a while back, so I'll look for the link and try to post it for ya!
