“This check brings us to a total of 122 endowed professorships, about 10 eminent scholar [million dollar] chairs and $25 to $30 million endowments, which each year, the interest comes into this university.”
Re: $1.1M in new endowed professorships
“The Board of Regents Support fund originated with $500 million and is now right at $1 billion in value,” Savoie said.
That means $50 mil a year at 5% interest! Should be some great things happening at Tech for that much.
Re: $1.1M in new endowed professorships
That's great. When was the last time Tech was on tv for nanotech or biomedical engineering? Athletics is the window through which the country views your university. For tech, that would mean looking through the rusted screen of a 40 year old single wide. Other universities and presidents get it, why not ours?
Re: $1.1M in new endowed professorships
To be honest, I'm proud that TECH can keep it's academic head above water and become better.
It REALLY makes me wonder how much more money we would have to play with if they would just invest more into athletics and get a big return on their investments.

Oh, you implied NATIONAL PPV tv! Thanks for your clarification.
Sorry to rub up on your feelings. It was nothing personal.
IMHO It's sad when a poster has to make cute remarks like yours to another.

True, but have we ever been close to the third tier before?? I honestly don't know, but tons of people were proud that we made it there... now that we've tasted it, we should want it more and more. With the new buildings and new programs, teir 3 will hopefully be our permanent location soon, and I don't think that we've ever been there before.
