My screen name is a tribute to Hunter S. Thompson, Dr. Gonzo, it is also a reference to the golf club that I belong to The Gonzo Golf Club, A drinking club with a golf problem.
In previous years I have sat in section OO on the east side, also known as the Pound and plan on being back there next football season after a brief hiatus while Shelly and I were long distance dating.

See ya around the boards :)
you will be originating by son....... good luck.
I just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. I'm a recent transplant from Hattiesburg, MS. I moved here to be closer to my mother, and other family members. It has been a big adjustment going from a city type lifestyle to the whole "green acres" theme that Simsboro has to offer. I'm very happy that I FINALLY found a local forum that is ACTIVE!!!
I'm a psych major and will be picking up this fall at Tech. I look forward to getting to know everyone better and learning more about the area and people! :)
new to this and so far like it. its a cool place to just have good ol' chats. :) lets see whats in store.
Hello Ladies and Gents.

Hope To see ya soon! :D
Thanks for the warm welcome. I reallly needed that. To tell ya the truth I was a bit nervous when i first post in this forum lol. i thought it would be like * SHUT UP YA FRESHMAN!!!* but i guess high school does tht to ya.
Again thx for the welcome.
4 years? You needed tutoring in Coed Procrastination!
T0n1c The Bulld0g, welcome to the Tech Family and to bbb! The friends and memories you make in college will be with you forever; I just spent the weekend camping and boating with two college buddies and their families.
Welcome to the board! There is a LOT of opportunity to have fun. Keeping on those books is hard to do sometimes....but ya gotta do it.
Be sure to make every home football game, none of that "but I go home on the weekends" crap! If you MUST see your momma....tell her to come to the game :)
Sure! No problem. Always glad to help out.
These two majors are VERY different. I guess the best place to start is to ask: what are you looking to do, really? I came into college with "hey, I want to make videogames!" ambitions and chose CS.
CS is based around programming. By the time you graduate you'll probably have a firm grasp on Java (you start here), C/C++, and a scripting language of some kind (I learned PHP). CIS is based around Information Systems (SOME programming -- COBOL is what they used to teach, database work, business classes, etc). Basically, CS prepares for working in a development house (or at a laboratory), while CIS prepares you for working in IT.
CS is universally considered harder due to the math. CS also requires you to obtain a minor, so a lot of guys go ahead and get their minor in business to help bridge the gap that's created by having CS and CIS as two separate majors. I did this.
Duckbillplatty is another CS guy, so maybe he can chime in. I think QNG graduated in CIS, so he could get you some info there. And I want to say my boy JFord did as well, but I could be wrong.
At any rate, I ended up NOT making videogames and am back in school getting my doctorate en route to working for the government (...probably), so your mileage may vary :) The best thing to do would be to head to Ruston sometime this Summer and speak with people in the departments. If you're interested, I could point you towards some quality folks in CS you could talk to.
EDITED TO ADD: And its totally cool if you don't have a damn clue what any of these acronyms or programming languages are. I didn't either. You don't have to be a huge programming nerd coming into college to succeed. But a love of computers is a big plus.
I agree, go to at least the football and home basketball games. Tailgating with college friends=fun. Especially when we have those beautifully October games where it is 70 all day and blue skies.....man I can't wait. Stand in the student section and yell as well, you are in for a treat with Dooley running things now and our program is only getting better.
Take your classes seriously, but most of all, have fun and go out and meet people.
Lum, I took some CS with you back in the day too. Do you remember Dr. Box's network mapping project in like... maybe CS 200 or something? I forget the numbering scheme now for those courses, but I believe you were in that class with me. The one series of classes I'll never forget at Tech though would be the evil Math 240 series. That was some serious stuff, and God help anyone that is stuck with Schroeder as their professor in it. hahaha
Luminaire is right. I'm a CIS student that works with a lot of CS graduates at my job. The CS grads here see CIS as below them.
I had to switch from CS to CIS because of the math, but by no means is it 'below' CS. It's simply different.
Awww shut it, ya freakin' newb CIS loser... CS is SUPERIOR!!! hahaha just kidding, but I had to say that there :p
The difference to me would be that CS is more "scientific" and works with theories and whatnot, while CIS will give you a lot more current industry tools to get you rolling on a job. A lot of people I know took courses from both, because there seem to be a lot of things in the IT world that CIS courses will teach you mostly how to do, from the start. CS will talk more about the math and base science underlying it, and you'll have to be a little more self-taught for it. A balance of both is good for success in the industry.
Not me. I think she's probably a good teacher (I knew a lot of people that liked her class) and a good person, but her style was not for me. I was probably too calculator dependent.
That and I was a sorry, lazy bum when it came to homework back then. Come to think of it, that trait didn't really help me much at all in my undergrad years. . .
Hey all! With all the coaching stuff going on, I had to get on the board! I'm a LA Tech Alum, Winter '92. Frat Boy TKE.
Hey hey! I started following latechbbb last year, and finally made an account so I could stop being a 'lurker!' I'm graduating this Spring in engineering and heading to Houston. I wish I could be a student for one more year, since next years football season should be fun! I should make almost all the games though. Anyway, I just wanted to say hey.
Ohh yeah, it's SNOWING!
Hi everyone. I am a future student at Louisiana Tech. I will be enrolling in the fall quarter. I am a big basketball fan, so Tech's success' in basketball has been a great plus. Hopefully I can make most of the games when I enroll.
Ha. I didn't know other people knew where Mittie was!
Hey, my name is Jeremy. I am a sophomore majoring in Kinesiology.
Hello, I'm new here, and I hope I'm welcome in here.
I am planning to move to Louisiana this year (or this month). :)
Hello everybody, I am a huge Tech fan especially when it comes to football and with all that is going on i decided to join in.
It's never too late to start barkin'! Welcome aboard.
I'm Kyle, grad 05, work for Community Trust. Live in Choudrant.
im justin from c.e. byrd in shreveport and will be a senior in mechanical engineering in the fall. i was one of those misguided lsu fans when i came to tech, but now you will NEVER find me supporting that school. EVER. Basketball is my favorite sport to watch, but you will see me at all the home football games and a few of the road games too.
Good to have you'll onboard. You can keep the old folks like LookingForResults in line.
Hello is anyone here? I'm Mane Howard from Paris, Texas.
Hey all, senior biology major here; I just found these forums yesterday and decided to join. (Hope you guys have a great snow day tonight and tomorrow!)
I don't believe I've ever done a proper introduction, so here it goes. My name is Chris, I am 20 years old and from Homer LA. I love football and attending Tech games, though in the past 2 years its been harder to get to a tech game cause of my dad's health issues.
Name is Troy.
Tech grad. Live in Bossier parish.
Daughter is a Sophmore at Tech in the BOP.
Younger daughter will enroll at Tech this coming fall.
We bleed blue at my house.
I dont understand why more Tech students don't convert over. I too was a LSU fan in highschool because it seemed like the cool thing to do but by about my sophmore year at Tech I "saw the light" and realized that I would rather be a part of building something great than just jumping on a band wagon I had nothing to do with.
Hello,This is Pattinson! i am new here, its a great forum, i think i can learn a lot in this forum.Hope it will b a great pleasure to be a member of this site.I'm positively looking forward to the forum and its members hope all will guide, share and help me to increase my knowledge.

Hello everyone! Glad to be here. I used to get on in the past, but neglected this site too long. Hopefully my opinions will be less asinine than they were a couple years ago.
I doubt it... :icon_razz:
Hi. I went to Tech back in the mid to late 90s. I was a music major and did some time in the marching band. Loved going to the football games. I now live in BSU country...it's hard to take tbh. I miss Ruston and had lots of good times...worked at Anthony's which I'm sure has closed down since I left.
Anthony's has been closed several years since they had a fire. I'm thinking on the corner at the time was Pickle Barrel; if so, that's now Monjuni's Italian.
Wow, Ruston is big time with a Monjuni's! HA! I worked at one of those in S'port shortly after Anthony's. I didn't know they had a fire.
