I'm shocked. Let's make the most of it!

Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
I like it. A lot. It's something new and different. And CUSA badly needs something new and different.
Still want to see LA Tech get in the AAC.

Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Easy to get my wife to go. IKEA, Stonebriar Centre, lots of higher end restaurant options. The Shops at the Legacy is down the road.

The Shops of Legacy/Bishop Ave are literally 1.7 miles from Stonebriar Centre in Frisco. Just take Parkwood over to Legacy.

Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
This is the next best thing to hosting in Shreveport-Bossier. We will have a good team next year and the LA Tech fans need to show up big time at the C-LATECH Tournament.
;)

Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
The city already is in planning stages to support the Jones and make it a first class event.

Maybe you should go the weekend before for the Frisco Classic (baseball), spend a couple of days shopping with her, then head to the C-USA Basketball Tournament. I know my husband LOVES shopping with me! :D

Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Really great for me living in Irving. This will be a short drive and looking forward to it. UNT has got to be thrilled as well. If they have a good team this will be close to home for them.
-
Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
On the CUSA message board, bunch of whiners about it being in Frisco. They can all suck it. I'm happy. I was there a few weeks ago around Dr Pepper Arena/Stonebriar. They are adding more hotels. It's clean, new, and nice.
-
Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Now people need to show up. Attendance has to be good or the whiners will make their case to have it moved.
Is this a one-year or multi-year deal in Frisco?
-
Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Not sure, they are supposedly making an announcement today. I imagine this would be a first class experience. The city of Frisco has been doing a great job hosting many different sporting events. Also, it's home of a NBA Development team, MLS, AA baseball, FCS championship, etc. They know how to run events.

Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Why all the gnashing of teeth -
In reality the conference needs a 6,000 seat arena max for the Championship game
If UAB folks would of turned out and if UAB folks would of made B'ham a destination trip - they would of still been hosting it
Fact is, most were willing to go to UTEP, Roanoke or any place else to get out of B'ham and away from UAB

Pretty much tells you all you need to know.
We are hated by UAB. I like it.

Re: C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Why wouldnt we like the move? 100x better than Birmingham.

Yep
Let's face it - if they have 4k at the championship game they quadruple attendance over last year

Was that Stephen Jones at the end?

Re: 2018/2019 C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
I'd like to nominate the outgoing Mayor of Frisco to replace Judy as C-USA commish. Can I get a second?

One thing is certain -
It will be first class if the Cowboy Organization has anything to do with it...
And this is coming from a dyed in the wool Cowboy-hater

Re: 2018/2019 C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
At the end of the day, Frisco has money. They will make this a very good experience. I think the layout of the facility is very fan friendly. If you are not watching one of the games, you can tour the facility and the surrounding area.

Re: 2018/2019 C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Shreveport/Bossier take note. This is how it's done.
Frisco hosting CUSA Basketball, Big 12 media day, a bowl game, college baseball tournament, home of NBA DL team, MLS soccer, etc.

We're a finalist for a D-League team :D
Shreveport doesn't have money, unfortunately.
Frisco did steal our baseball team (thanks to Mandalay changing it to Swamp Dragons).

Putting Shreveport/Bossier and Frisco in the same sentence as if comparable made me chuckle. Thanks.

It is pretty awesome. Possibly the best named Mayor in the country.
Great guy. Attended an event at Dr. Pepper Ballpark when we first moved to Frisco. He came and played catch with my kids. Wish he could be the Mayor for the next decade.

Are you serious?!?!?! S/BC has infinitely more experience putting on quality collegiate and professional sporting events. Why just look what S/BC has done with the minor league hockey, AA baseball, arena football, Canadian Football, Continental Basketball League, annual State Fair football game (Tech/NSU & Grambling/Alcorn), Saints pre-season football games, Independence Bowl.

Y'all come have fun with me on Twitter- these mtsu/cuab fans are as annoying as we can be :)
-
Re: 2018/2019 C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
The C-USA East fans are very afraid that they will never get the tournament moved back out of Texas, so they will be at an attendance disadvantage. They will always complain about Frisco regardless of how well the tournament does.

I hope they at least beat Alabama A&M, Ball State, and Coastal Carolina so we don't have to listen to SBC fans trash C-USA. After that I don't really care as long as we beat them.

That's not a bad idea either. Being headquartered in Frisco is a hell of a lot better than being in Irving.

Most of those CUSA-East fans have a big chip on their shoulder about Texas anyway. Most of 'em are simple-minded hillbillies that just don't know anything about running 1st class events like this. They may not know it yet, but this will be a great event for them and their school.

Re: 2018/2019 C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Southland Conference is headquartered in Frisco already. CUSA should join. They are in the same building as a law firm my students intern with. Maher is awesome. They new mayor will pick up right where Maher is leaving off. The city manager and the deputy manager (who handles most of the sports deals) will work with the Jones and this will be awesome. The Omni hotel (opens summer of 17), and some of the shops on site should be open by then as well. Frisco really wants to be a sports haven.
This should kill the tournament from ever going back east.
-
Re: 2018/2019 C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
Not to get ahead of things, but just imagine if Tech can:
1. keep going to the HOD Bowl vs a P5 regularly in football and maybe reach the Access Bowl a few times,
2. start winning some CUSA mens & womens basketball tournaments to get to the NCAA tournament,
3. keep building on the recent baseball and softball success.
This Frisco CUSA tournament could become a key pillar to setting us up as an elite G5 program (in postseason and recruiting).

I think the C-USA offices are actually in Las Colinas but with an Irving address. I'm not familiar with the area.

Las Colinas is part of Irving. One of regional offices that i work for is located there. I guess you would call it a district/region.

Re: 2018/2019 C-USA Basketball Tournament moving to The Star in Frisco!
I'm not sure how they are going to solution two courts under the same roof or what their court orientation would be, but here's some pics of the Midwest Regional at Lucus Oil to give you an idea.
With the Star having a lower ceiling than the Lucas Oil, the curtains would probably go from the ceiling to the floor. The Cowboys organization has really invested in high-tech stuff at Cowboy stadium and i assume at the Star, it wouldn't surprise me that they find some sound absorbing/blocking material to divide the two courts.

people around here joke that it is the nice part of Irving and they didn't want to be considered irving so they changed their name. They built offices etc out there way back when and it took forever for it to develop like they thought it would.
