from the first article:

Nearly 230 billion tons of ice is melting into the ocean from glaciers, ice caps, and mountaintops annually—which is actually less than previous estimates, according to new research by scientists at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
If the amount of ice lost between 2003 and 2010 covered the United States, the whole country would be under one-and-a-half feet of water, or it'd fill Lake Erie eight times, researchers say
they need to check their math. i calculate just over an inch.

Their article probably meant to say toes not feet.
Re: Dangerous Global Cooling III
how does someone get a job writing for a major newspaper if their critical thinking is no better than that? even if that is the number they were given by the researchers, you have to think, "man, lake erie must be a lot deeper than i thought if it holds enough water to cover 1/8 of the united states with 1.5 ft of water!"
...or maybe it's just that lake erie is deeper than thought...
(that's deep)

The "sky" already reaches to the ground. How can it fall?
....it can't.
Put away the childrens' books, Chicken Little, and try reading up on real science.

Interesting that the average temperature for Chicago for March was FIVE degrees above the historic recorded average.
If it was FIVE degrees below the average you could say we were headed for another ice age.
