What we learned today on The Tim Fletcher Show:
@LATechSports AD, Bruce van de Velde says Shreveport/Bossier will host annual games (1 of 2)
(cont.)... Football/hoops/baseball all will play yearly in Shreve/Bossier. Also, when asked what plan B was if CUSA didn't work? "no plan B"

Great move! If that's what it took, then kudos to Bruce for getting it done. I'm sure the Shreveport haters will bemoan this.

Shreveport is essential to our growth. A game ther isnt gonna hurt my feelings.
Re: Details on BVDV Interview on The Tim Fletcher Show
I don't like playing in Shreveport, but if one game a year in football and BBall was needed to make CUSA happen, then I am all for it.
I can live with that.
Re: Details on BVDV Interview on The Tim Fletcher Show
If a Shreveport game is going to work, it needs to be made a big deal... a hyped game against a good team that travels well. Playing UTEP or Rice isn't going to be worth our time.
Re: Details on BVDV Interview on The Tim Fletcher Show
I'm ok with 1 game as long as it is with a big school(Texas A&M)...BUT...the entire process needs to be organized WAY BETTER than it has been in the past

Playing Southern Miss in a rivalry game during the State Fair like we once did Northwestern would be a good idea IMO.

Would North Texas fit the bill for a game in Shreveport? You'd assume they'd travel pretty well being so close.

I'm not sure about North Texas. Their average home attendance in 2011 was 18,864, including a season-opening crowd of 28,075 for the game against Houston.
I think a school like TCU would be a better fit for a "big game" in Independence Stadium than North Texas. Schools like Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and Houston would be good fits as well. If CUSA wants Tech to play in Shreveport once a year, it would probably be a non-conference game as opposed to a conference game anyway.

I don't agree with having our "Rivalry in Dixie" home games in Shreveport right now. The rivalry not is big enough to warrant a move from The Joe to Independence Stadium at the moment.
Re: Details on BVDV Interview on The Tim Fletcher Show
I don't think any C-USA games should be in Shreveport. All should be in Ruston. Shreveport games should be against schools formally known as AQ schools, both football and basketball. I thought I remember reading that the conference would assist us in scheduling these teams. And I agree, the Shreveport events should be heavily promoted and "managed" as premiere major events for north Louisiana.

I'm thinking it needs to be a non-conference game against Oklahoma St, Baylor, Texas Tech, Miss St, etc.
