We all knew when we got our last FG to go up 23-17, that we would lose 23-24 again by -1 point. Two FGs and zero TDs in the entire second half were a killer.

That stat is exactly why we are where we are. Our red zone offense is impotent, and Skip thinks we have an automatic 3 points when we get to the opponent's 35. He's too fearful to risk turning it over going for a TD when he already has 3 points on the board in his mind. J'Mar's late red zone INT against South Carolina is tattooed on Skip's brain.

Exactly. As soon as we cross mid field we are playing for the field goal. We have had a few occasions where if you go up by 10 you are in good shape (USM proved me wrong on that too though). We seem to always be ready to settle for 3. We aren't attacking and keeping them on their heels, we are playing right into their hands.
Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
I think we'll try a 70-yarder before the season is over.

and make it to take the lead 30-28. But with 27 seconds left on the clock the other team will connect on two 35 yard passes and kick a field goal to beat us 30-31 as time expires.

Where were you in 2013? This team is alot easier to watch than that, of course that is not saying much.

Yea and Skip wonders why J'Mar plays tight.
Skip wussed out at USC by calling a simple run on 3rd and 5ish, then kicked the fg to go ahead 2. Did it again against UNT. No balls.
BTW in the post game interview he tried to explain why he kicked on 4th down, "well we ran it twice on 2nd and 3rd down and didn't get it, I had no confidence we would get it on 4th." It doesn't even register with the dude that he screwed the pooch on 3rd down.

I think it was by design. When you coach scared like he has always done, you tank it on 2nd and 3rd down when in his perceived FG range. His biggest fear is a turnover not losing the game.

Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
I told one of the Scout parents when we got in redzone first time - 2 runs & an incomplete pass. Exactly what happened
Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
He said I need to be positive- I told him I'm positive that's what will happen
Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
Can we attempt 8? Come on Holtz, get us in the record book!!!
Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
The easiest position for Holtz to recruit should be the FG kicker. We should be able to get the best there is- they know they are going to get the most opportunities. Everyone in the stands knows we will not score a TD, we are only playing for FGs. I heard someone scream we were in FG position when we had a first down on the 50. It is SO frustrating!
Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
If I'm Skip's boss I'd absolutely forbid him to go for a field goal the rest of the year....to play they don't exist. I dare say we wouldn't have won today, but most of the other games I think we sure could have!
Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
Should have gone for the onside kick to open the second half. He is such a non-competitor.
Re: CUSA Leader in FG Attempts = LA Tech
‘Non-competitor’ really does define Hotlz in all regards. The only time he goes for broke when it’s pointless regardless of the outcome. What’s even worse is that the team has taken on his apathy.
