He is rock's version of Buddy Rich.
I think I read somewhere that Neil Peart talks about Buddy Rich like he was a God. Peart was originally inspired by Keith Moon, but learned to play from Rich's work.

He also played that the Buddy Rich tribute.

Watch this guy playing Rush's Spirit of Radio... this, to me, makes a great drummer... the drums are such a valuable instrument in the song.

 ginger baker! :drummer:
i would also have to add stewart copeland and levon helm. i don't usually pay that much attention to drummers, but these are drummers that stick out to me as being able to really make a song work (THE purpose of a drummer, in my opinion).
Re: Who's the best drummer?
Charlie Watts of Rolling Stones should not be on this poll. I can play rolling stones music and I have only been playing two weeks!
The guy from Blink 182 is pretty good as is the Green Day guy. I can't even come close to playing their songs. I haven't even attempted Tool.
Of course Slipknot is very complicated, but I think they use multiple drum sets.

Slipknot does use multiple drum sets.
Mudvayne and Meshuggah also use complex time signatures and polyrhythms.

Any drummers on here have any experience with the Roland V-series? Good? Bad?
