Re: SKIP Holtz -- Spectacular career so far
We play MSU next year, right?
Re: SKIP Holtz -- Spectacular career so far
He may have the most wins but he will leave Ruston with zero (0) conference championships.

#1 since 2013 for NFL draft we are #1 for draftees in non power 5 --don't give me the he inherited-- our staff developed these guys
he has been frontman on huge money drive with alumn. he has created tremendous family atmosphere with program
But of course we have the haters ( or strong critics) who have little understanding of his past career-- Offensive co-ordinator for ND when they went 21-2 and 3rd in nation offense. coached on 8 New years day bowl games in different capacities
CUSA coach of year last year But of course that is not enough for --soften up- critics
compare to past coaches since I went to first Tech game in 65: Aillet from 1940 -1966 151-86 -8tie 66% w/l Lambright til 1978 95-36 2 72% proof that stability helps
since then (about 40 years) --wins Jack Bicknel ( who had way to many money games) 43 wins--- google and see his 3-4 money games per year schedule --we were desparate for money
Joe Raymond peace 40-44 SO #1 43 #2 is 40 wins
How does Skip stack up?? 37-28 ( off wiki if I'm wrong) -- 7 more wins puts him #1 in modern era .
how can anyone denigrate that -- Now how about w/l record over last 40 years -- #1 Crowton 61% (21-13) the Tim R days #2 AL Williams 59.4% 28-19 Dykes#3 59.5% 22-15
Coach Holtz at #4 58.5 37-28 we have had 5 coaches with losing records and 1 (Brewer) 19-15 OK --gravy won 1 game for 100% record
Give me your best shot, by this time next year, if he chooses to stay, Coach Holtz will have more wins after 6 years than any coach such Maxie.
Also keep in mind that after every winning coach since then we hired a coach who had losing career except Brewer and Skip
Skips my guy -- NFL guys- Class program and a proven winner .... when he decides to retire I would live to see him AD , assuming TC chose to move on
2 conference championships in 18 years as a head coach, none at Tech even though he has had NFL caliber talent in a mostly mediocre conference. 2-3 WTF losses every year. Ignore the facts if you wish, but those are the facts.
Comparing Holtz record to Crowton, Bicknell, or Dykes is like comparing apples to oranges. Holtz’s schedules have been much easier due to conference affiliation.
Re: SKIP Holtz -- Spectacular career so far
Spectacular?!?!?!
Now that he's completed five years at Tech, how many of his teams have :
"over achieved"?....
"under achieved"?....
"finished the season where they should have"?
(hint: when your seniors flunk off the team before the championship game or bowl game, that's classic under achieving!)
Re: SKIP Holtz -- Spectacular career so far
Holtz has been a good stabilizer since coming to Tech, but I dare say he’s overachieved. The very fact that he’s had so much NFL talent in such a weak conference yet no conference championships can’t be overlooked. I hope Skip has continued success at Tech because I think he truly cares about the players. However, his tenure here hasn’t been all roses.

Good post. It's also a hell of a lot easier for LA Tech to earn a bowl appearance today than it was prior to 2013. So, comparing Skip Holtz's bowl appearance record to his LA Tech predecessors is absurd.

How much of that NFL talent did he bring in?

More importantly, what did he do with it?

Go 1-10 against P-5 schools, and 9-14 against teams that finished the season above .500.
Re: SKIP Holtz -- Spectacular career so far
We beat who we should, mostly. We're sub 500 against teams we *could beat. Not what I'm looking for in a conference as shitty as this.
That said, he's done ok. Passing grade through the first 5 years, but now it's all on him since these are all his recruits. If he's that good, next year will either prove it or prove he's not our guy.
JMar didn't have to be another Higgins or Sokol or Driskel, he just needed to be decent. The fact that he was so far away from that is why I am skeptical of SH's future leadership of the program.

Yep & LSU
Re: SKIP Holtz -- Mediocre career so far
His career has been mediocre at best, especially here at Tech in an age where there are bowl bids handed out like Oprah gives away cars...
I'm sorry, but NO conference championships with the talent that has rolled threw here under his watch is a big disappointment
It's common knowledge his wife wants out of Ruston, so I don't think his tenure is much longer here
Is that good or bad, I don't know but I think we will be ok either way and I would much rather him leave on his own accord than having to fire him
Re: SKIP Holtz -- Mediocre career so far
We can only hope she motivates him to win 2 championships so she can get out of Ruston, otherwise he will have to lose his way out and I don't want to go through that pain!

Hah! if Skippy is any kind of man he tells his wife how the cow eats the cabbage! Motivate him? Poppycock!
Like me, for instance, I always get the last word in with my wife. And it's usually, "yes ma'am."

I think Coach Holtz has been good for the program here at LaTech, but if JMar is the QB next year, us fans should not expect any thing better than another possible 6-6!
I have to admit listening to the FAU game and to see what really good coaching can do for a team, has to make you think about Coach Holtz ability vrs. being a GOOD OLE BOY!
