Next week will be brutal.
UTEP lost to a team that was missing two starters.

Yes! If we always played with as much hustle we had tonight, we’d have at least four more wins right now. This was a fun game to watch. Hope this effort and energy continues.

Highest announced attendance of the year (3654). First time announced attendance broke 3500. Great job by our AD.

Right, and missing 3 starters if we count Harris.
We had four freshman plus Jean playing for a time with around 5 minutes left and the game very much contested. Freshman Archibald played 31 minutes, freshman Duruji 26 minutes, freshman Christo 22, freshman Pemberton 11. Duruji and Archibald got double figures. Bracey and Powell are sophomores. Get the big guys we need and we've got a future.

I thought Oliver Powell played lights out down low. He wasn't perfect, but it was enough to get 41 in foul trouble

Exactly! We don’t have to have a 20 point performance, just a presence.

He has quickly turned into my favorite play. Even when he misses something, its exciting....and you can see what he is capable of. He beat the 7'2" center on the tip off. Much to look forward to with him!

Let's check in on our defense.

Oh.
Like I've been saying all year, we don't play defense most of the time.

It always takes HS kids most of the season to learn how to play D at game speed at this level and that is when they are playing as RS Sophmores or Juniors. We are playing 4 Freshman alot of minutes and they are learning how to play D at this level. For instance, on Saturday, 3-4 times we just a hair late closing out on the 3 point shooter. Every time it was a different FR who was late and, of course, at this level they hit all those shots. I was very encouraged by the energy, the effort, the progress, and team chemistry on display. Most importantly we WON!
We still have two tough games on the road this week and it wouldn't surprise me if we dropped both but we should finish strong and hopefully make a run in the tournament. Our opening CUSA schedule has been brutal and when you combine that with all the changes, it was a recipe for disaster. Hopefully we can find a way to get a win at uab and split this week. We are due for a break to go our way soon.
