So, LA Tech's two CUSA crossover games are FIU at home and Marshall on the road. I laugh, because we always seem to get CUSA crossover teams when they are at their very best.
We played ODU when they had their absolute best team ever back in 2014. And, of course, WKU was on our schedule during the Hilltoppers' back to back CUSA championship seasons during 2015 & 2016. And don't forget that FAU was on our 2017 schedule when they had their best season in the history of their school.
Marshall is always pretty good. But methinks FIU --who was already pretty stout this past year-- might be a problem for us.

Geezus, you mean we will finally have Marshall in Ruston in 2020? That would be one that I think would draw interest.
Grambling is garbage, will not waste my time or money on that game.

3-1 in OOC. Probably 2-2 CUSA home, and 2-2 CUSA road, 7-5 again.
Best case, would be 3-1 in each, thus 9-3 overall. So, just win our bowl....and whoopie, we win 10!!!! Finally....

THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL SCHEDULE
Here's an example of how I'd like to see the schedule go down. We get an extra bye week, so having an early by (9/21 or 9/28) wouldn't be so bad, but I'd like us to have them spread out.
I also would like for us to avoid a home game around Thanksgiving |

Since the fire you have to go through the drive thru. Pay on one side, drive around and pick up on the other. Definitely not fast food. If yours ain’t ready, they tell you to pull up and they’ll bring it out. After the whole process of getting in the car line, paying, getting to the window and being told to pull up, then waiting 20 minutes more... the last time I went (45 minutes to get chicken) was the last time I’m going.

This. Every good place has had a fire.
My grandpa used to wouldn't eat anywhere until it had burned down at least twice.

We know we are stuck with five home games again. It's just a matter of which SWAC team he will get. It's about time to get Alcorn or Miss Valley in here for a $500K payday. That's a nice payday for a 4 hour bus ride.
....BUT we get to see a HBCU band march. That'll be great to go with the post game fireworks.

2019.... the ONLY thing to keep us from 11-1 will be ourselves. That schedule is WEAK.

Marshall/FIU finished 2 & 3 in East (not sure what they have coming back).
UNT/USM are at home, but UNT should be good and we can't beat USM.
UAB and their 30 year olds will be on the road.

Agreed. The biggest threats to Skippy and the boys will be road games at Texas & Marshall, and at home against USM & FIU. Former University of Miami and North Carolina Head coach Butch Davis has done a nice job of rebuilding the FIU program. The Panthers won 6 of their last 7 regular season games, and then topped off the 2018 season with a 35-32 win over Toledo in the Bahamas bowl. They finished 2018 with a 9-4 record. FIU will be solid.

Re: 2019 Louisiana Tech Football Schedule
We've all seen this movie before, and know how it'll end. If we don't drop off too much on defense, we'll struggle to finish 7-5 and go bowling again. No defense, and yikes! Not pretty.

I wish one of you research gurus would do this. I will try when I get a rainy weekend day to work on it...
Compare our payout from Texas with payouts to other G5s. Go back 5 years (I think our 2020 payout will be in that range) and go forward 5 years.
Do the same for lsu last year and Clemson in 2022.
FWIW, we have no money games 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024,or 2025.

Baylor will pay us $500K for the 2020 game and the other two are treated as home and home, so that's a half payout.
NC State will pay us $1.1 million for the 2021 game and the 2024 and 2025 games are treated as home and home.

I suspect that's on purpose. Seems logical to wait until prices escalate a bit for money games before signing up. Why sign up for a "2021 money game" in 2017 for 1.0M, when you can wait until 2019 or 2020 and sign up for a similar 2021 money game for $1.3M?
-

$500K is laughable. The absolute worst deal in the history of Tech football.
We get $1.1 for two games in a row at NC State over 4 years. NC State will cancel the last game in Ruston. This and Miss St. part 2 are HORRIBLE deals that the Mississippi Valley AD could have done better with.

We don't have room for money games in those years. $1.3 was the going rate 5 years ago. In 2-4 years it will be 1.6 or more.

The point wasn't to argue about what the going rates are, and whether you like them or not. It was simply to acknowlewdge that the rates will be worth more in the future than they are today. And you just acknowledged that.

Yes, but my point was that we don't have room for more games in those years. Also, you can't sign a money game 2 years out. Well BVDV could, but not our current AD. We need $2M per year minimum.

I think $2 million is a little high, but we definitely need to be in the $1.3-$1.6 million range for future games.

IF they did that, they would owe us at least $500K if it is anything like our game contracts in the past. That was the lowest I could find in the handful of our contracts that I have (A&M, Miss. St. etc). They also would have a lot of trouble being the home team on the back end of any series for the foreseeable future. It would be self defeating for NC State to do that.

Re: 2019 Louisiana Tech Football Schedule
So, LA Tech will have two Open dates in 2019. And they are perfectly situated on the calendar. Hmmm. That alone should give us a big edge this season.

Quick poll and comments...
USF just signed a 2 for 1 deal with Bama. Of course, yes, we all know Bama is likely to buy out their one trip to Tampa. But, let's say they don't, or better yet, USF says keep your money and bring your asses here, dudes!
Not Bama for us, because we are on an official 3-game win streak against them (counting that vacated game in 1991 or 92). We have nothing to prove there. But, and this is my question, would you enthusiastically support, and post positive things here, if Tech did a 2 for 1 deal with Ohio State? or Notre Dame!? or Michigan? or some other "elite" like that? Of course, we would probably play our 1 game in Shreveport. What say you?

Yes, wholeheartedly support.
1 game in Indy vs. top10 program > 2 games in JAS vs. FCS

Texas & Bowling Green games' TV & times should be announced tomorrow - C-USA marches to a different drum, so the rest of our game times and TV should be announced next Thursday.

Agreed...the games against Miami, and then Johnny Football's aTm were a whole lot more interesting than hosting Nicholls and Southern. Even though the Miami game got out of hand, it was great to be there as their defense had SIX future NFLers alone! And one or two off the offense, as I recall.
Apparently you and I are the only ones interested, so I'll call Notre Dame back and tell them "no thanks." :(

Re: 2019 Louisiana Tech Football Schedule
Would you take a 2 for 1 with Arkansas? Say even swap Shreveport and Little Rock with a money game in Fayetteville?

Tech just did a 2 for 1 with Miss State. I never want to see those guys on the gridiron again. Baylor and NC State are also on the horizon. I like both of those opponents much better than a sure-fire bloodbath against a Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc. I absolutely hate the true money game against Clemson. That's just bad scheduling, I don't care if they gave us market value or not. Also, let's not kid ourselves, the only reason Bama is going to USF is so that they can invite a bunch of recruits to the game. I don't think them or Michigan or anyone else needs to recruit in Shreveport.
Also, Bama isn't buying out the USF game in Tampa because it's the first game that will be played in the series.

The last time we played Arkansas we had a game scheduled in Little Rock. Our current AD changed it to Fayettville and refused to answer when asked why he moved the game.

- Not to sound like semantics, but the Miss. State series began as a home and home with and extra money game in Starkville. The deal BVDV cut with Miss St was much better than the one our current AD ended up changing around. We netted much less money out of the six game deal than we would have had he not screwed it up.
- The Baylor deal is HORRIBLE. It is THE worst deal any Tech AD since Stovall has cut. We need and deserve to make the going rate to play the big boys. There's no excuse other than bad negotiation skills by our lightweight AD. The NC State deal is a close second. It's really sad that our AD is allowed to get away with these horrible deals.
- Two for one deals are just bad business unless they are structured correctly. Having a home game with a minimum buyout on the end of the series is bad business. Instead we should have the home game in the middle or at least have a HUGE buyout if he puts us at the end of the series.

Our current AD only signed off on moving years around with Mississippi State. All 6 games were scheduled prior to his arrival.

Incorrect. He negotiated expertly -- they got a sweetheart deal, and he gets a glowing recommendation for any AD openings that interest him.
He's a skilled negotiator, just not on Tech's behalf.

Nope, you are wrong again. Our current AD took less money than our former AD originally signed off for with Miss State. You probably think the Baylor and NCSt deal are good deals as well.

I promise you, I don't argue facts on here unless I literally have the document in my hand.
The original deal was from November 2007 and the second one was from July 2009. See the link below for the most recent contract and date change addendums. Note the signature for the most recent set of 3 games (to be amended multiple times) bears the signature of Derek Dooley.

See, I'm not going to argue your Baylor point. We probably did leave some money on the table, although I will love to see Baylor in Ruston. That contract initially had our home game sandwiched in the middle, but from what I know [opinion] it looks like the Baylor home game was pushed out at our request to balance our future schedules once the SMU home and home was signed. Otherwise, SMU and Baylor would have both been in Ruston in the same season and the 2023 schedule would have been lacking. [/opinion]
As for the NC State deal, what is the bad part? The $1.1 million payout for the first game at NC State? Would you be satisfied if we played there for $1.1 million, we played there a second time expecting a return game and then they cancelled on us and owed us, say, $1.25 million? Would that be enough? 1.5 million?

He kicked a $500K can down the road four years, but took the same $500K. Great deal making with no consideration of the time value of money.

We got paid the $500K from Mississippi State in 2015 in a game that was played as scheduled. Our home game got pushed back one year (2016 to 2017) and our return game for that home game got pushed from 2017 to 2021. How are we losing on that?????
Strike two PawDawg.
What say you about the NC State deal? How much of a buyout on the end if they cancel on us is enough?

I have a feeling it will be back on UVerse for the start of football season. ATT & NFL are fighting over NFL Sunday Ticket. If it's not back by then - it is available for streaming on Sling, Playstation Vue & Fubo. I don't know if you DVD has access to any of those services, but you can usually get free trial.

Looks like I can get hulu, you tube, vudu, amazon and netflix on my Samsung. Of course I can get ESPN3 on my desk top. What's the difference between ESPN3 and ESPN+. I thought "3" took the place of "+". I can also get most on my Magnavox TV.

ESPN3 is available for free with your internet or cable subscription. ESPN+ is a $5/month service; these games are exclusive to ESPN+.
Is your Magnavox a Roku TV? If so, you'll have access to all the games except North Texas (facebook).

Where did you see that we got paid $500K in 2015? 2015 was the the first game of the extended deal done in in 2009. It matched up with the game to be played in Ruston (home and home). The $500K was to be paid for the game 3 trip to Starkville which was originally set for 2017, but later moved by our current AD to 2021.
I don't know how much is enough for the NCSt buyout of game 3. Probably much more than our AD settled for assuming he actually included a buyout clause. I notice the price was pretty hefty for the Miss St Series.

It is verbatim in the contract that I linked to. "4. MSU agrees to pay LTU, as full and complete compensation, the fixed sum of $500,000 for the game played September 12, 2015. No other compensation is exchanged, unless an institution breaches the contract".

The hefty price for the Mississippi State series was $900,000 for breach that Dooley negotiated. On the NC State contract, if they cancel the last game less than 18 months before they are scheduled to come (which would be the case if we played there two games and were due the return trip), they have to pay us $2 million for breach of contract. I'd say that's more than enough, HUGE even. In fact, that number is so big, I might hope they cancel on us and we can replace them with a different team and pocket even more money.
There are plenty of things to complain about, but these don't qualify.

Interesting. I was reading from the report put out by Tech Sept. 29, 2009, not the contract you provided. Based on the contract you provided, there is no money coming to us for the 2017 (now 2021) game so it's even worse than I thought. I'd say that is cause for concern. Please show me what we get paid for 2021.
Just so you'll know I was not making this up, the Tech article stated the following, "The extended two-for-one series will begin in Starkville on Sept.12, 2015 with Mississippi State returning that game in Ruston on Sept. 17, 2016. Louisiana Tech will then make another trip to Starkville on Sept. 9, 2017 and Tech will receive an additional bonus of $500,000 for that game."
I agree that a cancellation and a $2M check is better than playing NCSt in Ruston.

2015 @ Mississippi State - Tech gets $500,000 > played as scheduled
2016 @ Ruston - no money exchanged > moved to 2017
2017 @ Mississippi State - no money exchanged > moved to 2021
So we paid them nothing to come here in 2017 and benefited from all the ticket sales and they pay us nothing when we go there in 2021. I'm not sure how that is concerning.
(last year's game in Starkville was actually from the first contract and rescheduled from 2009 by BVDV in 2011.)

Yes, I'm aware of how things changed, but I was not aware that we were paid $500K for the first game in 2015. Tech reported to the media that we were to get paid $500K for the 2017 Starkville game, not the 2015 game.
Turned out not to be a good deal for us at all and backs up my dislike of 2 for 1 games. We got how much from all the ticket sales in 2017? Not much.

Yeah, I'm with you on 2 for 1 deals in general unless it is someone that's gonna bring so many people you really have to move it to Independence Stadium to rake in some cash (A&M, Arkansas, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, but I can never see that happening). Now, the NC State game has a high enough payout that it is really a money game and a home and home, which I don't have any problem with.
-
Re: 2019 Louisiana Tech Football Schedule
I might see A&M coming to Indy. They have traditionally liked to play in Shreveport. And of course they travel well. We probably couldn't accommodate all their fans if they came to JAS. The others, I agree. No way LSU would leave the friendly confines of Tigger Stadium for an out of conference game with a G5.

What will it cost NCSU to cancel the Ruston trip BEFORE we reach the 18-month window prior to the scheduled game in JAS??

Thanks for the scheduling info, Z. IMO, it does look like that 3-game series was a bad contract for LA Tech. Essentially, Tech got only 500K for 2 road games in an SEC stadium, and a home game out of the deal. Considering the market value that P5 opponents are getting, Tech probably should have gotten at least and additional $1M from the 2-1 deal. Just my opinion.
