seems odd to fire him for thatQuote:
In January 2015, NCAA schools passed legislation that required Power 5 conference schools, including Alabama and other SEC schools, to renew scholarships annually regardless of athletic performance. Previously, most scholarships were subject to annual renewal. Schools outside the Power 5 such as Louisiana Tech, Goff’s previous stop, are not required to renew scholarships annually.
He was cleaning house to get some juco players in. I didn't figure Bama would stand for that.
I wonder if they are firing him with cause and will not have to pay the remaining contract. Sounds like it.
A violation of NCAA rules would be a "for cause" dismissal; however, since the violation does not occur until the scholarship is actually not renewed...I'm betting they pay him out.
Probably. That's no money to them anyway.
My guess is what really happened is that somebody's grandson or nephew was getting cut. THAT'S the reason Bama sucks in baseball. Also, I bet you could find several examples of other P5 schools cutting players for reasons other than grades or conduct.
Wow! You would think he would have been aware of this and been advised it was an issue prior to taking away scholarships. Surely this was discussed with the AD? This is crazy.
I think it was some other issue, because honestly Goff isn't the one giving the scholarships away, that's the athletics foundation. Even if he told the students they were losing their scholarships, they weren't going to be taken away, and he could have received a reasonable talking to by his superiors. Firing doesn't seem like a reasonable response...
Proof that beating Auburn is not the only thing at Bama.
