But, it'll be nice to meet Curtis in the Dome! Er, provided we both make it that far. Take nothing for granted.
Who is Sam Houston and what's their story?

Why are there so many divisions and classes? I remember going to 2 state championship games in Shreveport while I was at Tech where Woodlawn played Holy Cross(1968) and Airline played another catholic school from New Orleans(1967) that I don't remember the name of. There were only 4 classes then, B, A, AA, AAA. Looks like they separated the church schools from the public schools now. What's up with that?
Everyone wanted a state finals participation trophy.
Led by the principles at Many and Winnfield high schools, a coalition of public schools sued, or threatened to sue, the LHSAA due to perceived "unfairness" of a system where Many and Winnfield had to compete with John Curtis in AA. So, to appease the gripers, this new alignment was established. It only affects, for now, football playoffs.
Me too, MD! I want it back the way it was. In fact, I want schools to be able to "play up" if they want to. So, Curtis can join 5A if they wish. Evangel can too.
I stood to the end of the game, still cheering, on a VERY cold night some years back, watching Evangel throttle Rummel 39-0 in the state semis, (or quarterfinals, can't remember which). Bunch of us, ahem, slightly older fellows, talking about hoping to see Rummel win a state championship and all of us, saying, we WANT Evangel to remain in 5A. Why, you might ask. Simple....so when Rummel did win one, it would be REAL. It would come by beating the best Louisiana has to offer.
That's what I want now. I want Rummel to compete at the highest level and to compete against the very best. If that means losing in the quarterfinals or semis many times, and not reaching the Dome...so be it. At least it would be real.
So, Many and Winnfield and their ilk, can have their trophies, but Curtis would donkey-stomp them 50-0 and so their so-called state championship is not real. They are not, and will never be, the best at AA football.
But....that's just me. Bring it on!
Let me hasten to add. I am NOT knocking the teams in the Select Division I bracket. No sir! I know there are many quality teams. Not just Curtis. So, in NO WAY, am I saying Rummel will cakewalk back to the Dome this year. We might lose this weekend. We struggled mightedly to beat Catholic-BR and Jesuit this season. Got a break on a muffed punt to escape with the W vs. Catholic-BR. So, I fully understand the task at hand.
But! the truth is, as good as Div I is, playing together in 5A with the likes of Byrd, West Monroe, Ponchatula, Destrehan, etc...adds "championship-caliber" games to the bracket. When Rummel won the last true 5A title in 2012, Ouachita and Mandeville, were both VERY tough and either one of those, with one bounce of the ball, could have been in the Dome instead of us. It is that close! Two Dome-worthy teams could meet in the quarterfinals, easily! And one of them is going home that night.
Bring it back.
Yep, a hand full of powerful programs including WM were what caused this mess.
My guess is that in the near future the private/public split will end and and a 6A will be created which contains the 32 largest schools in the state. Schools will be allowed to play up, but they must play all the way to 6A.
And I would support the creation of a 6A with the best of the best. That works for me.
Rummel 28 Teurlings Catholic 20
Big, 6'7" 240 lb QB for TC was a nightmare! Happy to get the W.
Next up a rematch with Jesuit in the semis. Was dreading this.
On the other side of the bracket Bro Martin vs. Curtis. Wouldn't surprise me to see Martin beat Curtis. In fact, I kind of expect it.
Three teams from the Catholic League still alive. Our district is the SEC West of Louisiana HS football.
HUGE games tonite, across the state. Get out and support high school football, wherever you are.
Don't be goofy. You know what I mean.
Go Jackets!
Ruston is a lot closer than New Orleans.
But! if it were a Tech 2-9 team vs. another loser like a UAB, and Rummel was playing in a HUGE game....probably I'd head south. Probably. I don't always have the luxury of getting away on weekends. Sometimes business obligations get in the way. So, it is possible to dash up to Ruston on a Saturday, setting aside 5 or 6 hours, but not possible to make an over-night trip to see Rummel play.
Anyway, back to my original point....get out there and support high school football!
Oh! would I see Rummel football instead of Tech basketball? Yes. Not even close on that choice.
Just being honest.....
Acadiana moves on with another road win. Zachary next. Gonna be tough. Good to have a home game again.
Jesuit 28 Rummel 14 Final
Congrats to the Blue jays!
One of those nights....
Yep! I saw it.
I'm not sure why some folks seem to have an issue with supporting ALL one's alma maters. Maddawg terms it as "living in the past." Hmmmm....I graduated from Rummel in 1976 and Tech in 1980. Guess they are BOTH in the past. Suppose I need to stop supporting Tech too.
Only, I'll keep doing it my way and to hell with anyone who has a problem with it.
Good luck and safe travels to all teams playing tonite.
Dayum....I am disappointed. Now I have to attend that silly Christmas Gala at NSU tonite*.....could have been in the Dome.
Go Blue Jays....beat Curtis!
*wife making me do penance for dragging her to Rummel and Tech games.
I'm hoping Mangham can get it done this year.
Acadiana Wreckin Rams just punched their ticket to the dome. Wasnt pretty but i will take it over a Christmas gala any day.
Couldnt resist D 80. :)
The gala was awesome!
34-9
Jesuit 17 Curtis 14 Final
Congrats Blue Jays.
How bout dem Dragons?? Mangham rematch with Haynesville. This time the Dragons may have the upper hand.
Rams bring the wood!!
State champs!! 4th time in 10 years!
All the Texas state championships on TV in Louisiana.
None of the Louisiana championships on TV in Louisiana.
Corruption! Maybe the new LHSAA guy will fix it.
All it takes is some strong marketing, securing enough TV $ponsorship$ to offset the loss in ticket sales to the live event.
And just imagine the expense charge Jerry puts on the Texas association to hold the event on his carpet.
I've never believed the "loss in ticket sales" argument. The one weekend that argument was used was also when it rained the entire weekend and kept casual fans away.
The problem with the LHSAA televising the event was Cox sports. That's where the corruption came in.
The NFL blackout rule has been rather effective in its lifetime.
Again, if it's FREE on TV, somebody would have to get off their butts and make some money for the LHSAA.
Maybe a CFB playoff, well, something to get a TRUE champion, might generate TV interest and revenue for the LHSAA. For instance, this upcoming weekend, Jesuit vs. Acadiana for "all the marbles."
Someone, like MD, would have to explain the COX TV "corruption" angle. I mean, why wouldn't COX want to televise the games, provided they could sell ads? I can maybe see the attendance in the Dome being a concern, but COX wouldn't care about that IF they were selling commercial time and making money.
Lifetime, Sport.
The blackout rule is one of the reasons the NFL is as big as it is TODAY. Sold out stadia built up business. What it has to do with HS is the LHSAA thinks it's the NFL. They love to see themselves on TV with a big crowd....two weeks later.
And, yes, there is plenty of sponsorship money out there if, this is a recording, the ad sales folks get off their butts and sell after the LHSAA committee of governing principals quit being idiots.
My initial post said that I'm watching Texas state championships in Louisiana. Corruption is the reason I'm not watching Louisiana State championships in Louisiana. That has nothing to do with blackout rules or lack of sponsorships
Oh. OK.
Corruption it is.
We get to watch the Louisiana Championships here in Texas as well.
We get to watch all the LA championships here too. Only, not live, but on taped delay replays.
OK, somebody humor me here so I don't have to go back and read it all. Will this year's championship games eventually be broadcast somewhere. If so, where and when?
NOLA's Jeff Duncan weighs in on the playoffs:

FSSW is replaying them, but it is pretty random. They showed each of the LHSAA Championships from the past weekend already. This weekend and next week will be all Texas championships. Christmas day and on there will be more replays of Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana championships. First two for LA I saw coming up were Christmas morning (Jesuit game) and day after Christmas (Neville game) about the same time as the HOD Bowl. The others are likely to follow those next several days/weeks.
