Barton is a really neat hire. Cory did a great job at #McNeese for three years before Louisiana Tech. #Rice #CUSA

Based on the way his pitchers dominated us in mid-week games, I like the hire...
Better for them to be hired away than have to fire someone -
Plus NO ONE actually knows what Rice's baseball budget is - my guess, close to our basketball budget...
Re: Lost Our Pitching Coach Again
McCartey(Dallas Baptist assistant and now head coach at Abilene Christian) came here and was here Goff's first year
Ostrander was here Goff's second year and Burroughs first year
Barton was here Burroughs second year
IT LOOKS WE NEED TO UP OUR PAY...

...or just upgrade every time to the hottest young up-and-comer in the business. Even if right now we're a stop along their journeys, we'll eventually become the destination.

I think you are right...its just tough to build the program and consistency with a new pitching coach every year. Just got to keep finding the replacement that is top notch.

True.
The one good thing is that pitchers are use to having numerous pitching coaches, many private as well, during their careers. This shouldn't matter too much as long as our new coach learns their strengths and weaknesses and works on them.

Why was it important to give him the "Associate Head Coach" tag? The last time that happened it didn't turn out well at all.

Yep. Remember David Bailiff was the highest paid football coach in C-USA a couple years ago with twice the salary of Holtz. There is no telling how huge Rice's baseball budget is. I don't blame him at all. Rice is an infinitely better baseball job than Southern Miss. Rice is arguably a Top 10 best baseball program in the country. Incredibly nice facility. Recruiting hotbed. Elite academics. Since 1997, only Texas, Miami, Cal State Fullerton, LSU, and Florida have more CWS appearances than Rice.

I'm guessing b/c he has way more experience than the other 2. I love that he was a MLB scout even if it was for 1 year...
