How many of you use the Tech golf course?
I try to play there 2-3 times a month. Hit the second birdie of my life just this past Thursday on the straight par 5 in the back. I find it almost a steal to play for $5 walking.

It's a fun course to go play with four iron down, no need for anything more. With any accuracy at all and some course knowledge, you can get a good score just by over powering the course.
I can not stand to play that course. I've seen Interstate Medians that were in better shape than Tech golf course. The only fun thing about the course is trying to hit the greens on Par 4's with a driver.
I use the Tech DISC golf course quite frequently. Anybody else a disc golfer?
Better enjoy it while you can. I think that before long you'll have to have a boat to play most of that course.Quote:

I've played courses that cost quite a bit, but some of my best golf memories where on that Tech course learning how to play. When you are a broke college student and you can play golf every day for free it's not so bad. We tried that and that was my first run in with the police while a Tech student. They were gracious and didn't arrest us. I still don't think it should be possible to trespass on Tech property while a Tech student on a place that doesn't post hours of operation, but no harm done.Quote:

:thumbsup: I remember when they drained the front pond to do some maintenance on the bridge. It stayed dry for a while. Pretty soon after they filled it up, I saw a couple of black dudes out there fishing for about an hour.... I *Wonder* if they caught anything...
I actually liked playing out there. Had some good times when they still had someone there to take your money. It wasn't in great shape back then but it has gone really downhill since then. I still try to sneak out there to play once a year. I wish they had the money to fix it up. I really like the layout.
For all of you guys saying you don't use drivers. not even on number 7?
Maybe we all could try and start up a mini-tourney out there on Saturday game days. Small fundraiser for the course.
Anyone that's run a tourney before, would this be reasonable and workable??

That course brings back memories.......I took my girlfriend (now my wife) out to teach her the game. We started on number 4, the par 3 by the parking lot. She swung 4 times, missed the ball every time, then launched my Ping 5 iron...........I took her back to her apartment. That was in 1990 and have never taken her to a course since. I was proud of the throw though!!!!!

I used a 3 wood on #7, it would roll a good bit. Take a 5 or 7 wood into the green. It was great when the wind was with you too, the ball would launch!
I remember playing there back in the 80's. It was free then - just show your Tech ID. That is where I learned to play, and how to work a plastic worm accross the bottom of a pond to catch bass. I also carried a 4-10 in my bag during the fall in case I saw a squirrel while looking for my ball in the woods. Several of us (some who post on here) played a round in the snow once with orange balls. We played at least 3 times a week. I now belong to a very nice club, but I think of that Tech course almost every time I play. Good times. More good Tech memories.

Wonder if they are sill talking about making it 18 holes? I am still hearing about the Sparta Aquifer issue. Wasn't that drying up in the early 90's???
