Just how terrible are we?
We were making our way back from the beach yesterday, so I couldn't attend the atrocity. I got to listen to the slow-motion train wreck via Dave and Teddy...I felt as though I was there!
Anyway, it made me wonder, just how bad is this year's Tech O. How does it rank in the pantheon of Skip's Tech offenses. Are they truly the most offensive? You tell me.
2013
- 19.2 PPG
- SOS: 125/125
- 206 YPG Passing
- 160.2 YPG Rushing
- 366.2 YPG Total
2014
- 37.4 PPG
- SOS: 75/128
- 252.2 YPG Passing
- 148.6 YPG Rushing
- 400.8 YPG Total

- 37.5 PPG
- SOS: 114/128
- 322.6 YPG Passing
- 159.8 YPG Rushing
- 482.4 YPG Total
2016
- 44.3 PPG
- SOS: 110/128
- 363.4 YPG Passing
- 151.6 YPG Rushing
- 515 YPG Total
2017
- 30.5 PPG
- SOS: 108/130
- 230.5 YPG Passing
- 172.5 YPG Rushing
- 403 YPG Total
2018 (so far)- 29 PPG
- SOS: 98/130
- 230.5 YPG Passing
- 122.4 YPG Rushing
- 352.9 YPG Total
As you can see, so far, this is the lowest YPG total...granted, we still have two 1 win teams left to play. Of interest, the biggest statistical difference between this year and all others is that our rushing yards are WAY down. Smith is clearly at a lower level than everybody except young Higgins, but, so far, his YPG are the same as last year, yet we're averaging 50 fewer YPG. The Strength of Schedule just shows you how abysmal our conference is.
We've played some real stinker games this year, but we DO have two close wins (games last year's team would've lost). What does that mean? I think it means we're a little older. At times, our OL looks as bad as our QB. Surely, the QB is indecisive and is being asked to make WAY too many decisions. I'm left where I'm often left....wondering why we show so little creativity in our offensive play calling. Our talent level is what it is. Why aren't we maximizing their potential?

It sure looks like Holtz is determined to work around his "rock star". JMar is just not good. I once thought he was serviceable. He is not. He has not instinct, touch, or leadership. All those things are important. If we don't have a better QB on the bench our HC is to blame. So our HC is to blame for our suckiness.

What does 2012 look like using this format?

How do the numbers support that narrative?

Agree with Pawdawg. If you struggle running the ball, you are a one dimensional offense. Then if your QB can't complete passes to the open receivers you aren't going to move the ball well. You will only be successful on the rare break away run or the rare completion. You have to see if your backup is more accurate than your starting QB in a game, imo.

JMar was not the QB in 2016 and before
Re: Just how terrible are we?
If we can’t have a Cameron, Sokel, Driskel, or Higgens at QB, then give us a Kubik.

Nah...you’re assigning motive that’s not supported by the stats. Could you be right? I suppose, but you’ll never know unless Skip confesses to you.
The stats show that he’s not very effective at protecting or building the O around J’Mar...which is almost the opposite of your point.

Why do we struggle running the ball? We’ve never been worse under Holtz and we had a highly touted OL.

Well, J’mar is supposed to be a dual threat Qb. He chooses not to run the ball, he would rather throw a long incompletion than use his legs and pick up the first down. The read option is only going to work if the qb will actually pull the ball and run.
Dancy had two good runs, back to back and then we seemed to go away from it for some reason.

Holtz MO. Run a guy a couple of times successfully and switch personnel before we can develop a rhythm.

I don't know this for a fact, but if I were a DC against Tech I would make JMar beat me.

Exactly. I believe this is happening every game.

Why do you think he continues to choose not to run?
