NBA looking at changing the "one and done" rule...
I'm not going to post any links, you can go search the world wide leader if you want, but I just want to paraphrase what the rumblings are.
Adam Silver is looking at fixing what the NCAA can't or won't. Rather than go to college for a year, high prospects jump to the G League. And, obviously get paid.
Is this good or bad for college basketball? Will it help even the playing field between the cartels and the other conferences? What are the ramifications?
Re: NBA looking at changing the "one and done" rule...
Let the kids make their own decisions. If they want to be grown at 18, let them. They can succeed or fail based on how smart they really are and who they surround themselves with. I don’t like the 1 and done because these pseudo students only have to take some rinky dink classes for 1 semester to stay afloat so they can jet after March Madness.
Re: NBA looking at changing the "one and done" rule...
It's an NBA problem not an NCAA problem - the collective bargaining agreement dictated the one and done....
To me it should be the same as baseball - that's the simple fix but the NBA does not want that because if a frosh/soph blows up he has to play another year until his junior year if he signs out of high school
The NCAA has more than it's share pf problems - but player eligibility for the NBA draft is NOT one of them - especially considering the fact there are no issues in CFB and BSB -
Re: NBA looking at changing the "one and done" rule...
Its the right thing to do. Not sure if it will help college, NBA or young athletes though.
It will hurt college hoops because you wont have the superstars even for a year. But it will help the parity and youll find out real quick which of the blue bloods can really coach/identify talent/recruit.
It'll hurt the kids because MANY will head that route and be VERY disappointed.
Dont know how it hurts the NBA...other than bad publicity when the ncaa is less than great and many kids flail in the system.
Re: NBA looking at changing the "one and done" rule...
If the NBA wants a minor league, they should pay for it. The NBA and the NFL have used the colleges as minor leagues throughout their history. The NCAA has a lot wrong with it, but that part isn't their fault.
Re: NBA looking at changing the "one and done" rule...
It’ll help the G League for sure.
Re: NBA looking at changing the "one and done" rule...
And it's not the NCAA's nor the NBA Player's Association to keep 18 year olds from making stupid decisions i.e. not doing the work necessary to "qualify" for college if the NBA is not in the cards
I don't think the "free pass" rule on 1x transfers will pass
There has to be some accountability some where

Agreed. There has to be accountability somewhere. But why does it have to be on the youngest and most immature of the parties involved? Thats why I hope the rule changes. It shifts accountability to some place where it can be effectively managed.
Recruiting then becomes an even more strategic area of importance...that I think levels the playing field a little more.
