Not that many 6'4 plus out there and if they are good we are not on their radar. Waaaayyyyy back in the day before the Techsters were nationally prominent, our quality bigs were home grown, mostly local within an hour or two from campus. Nobody probably remembers Eleanor Griffin, from Bastrop. She was 6'5" and looked 7' among the other players. Her and those before her got us to a place of prominence so that the bigs from across the national would consider coming to Tech. Been a while since we have had a quality big 6'3-6'4 from around this area.
I remember Eleanor Griffin! Sliced the back of my hand with her long fingernails.
Ah...during a pick-up game in the Old Men's Gym. (and yes, it was an old gym, now fondly remembered by "old men")
Walker's another guard...
Welcome to the Techsters...
Recruiting to Louisiana Tech would not a difficult thing, but it will take a special combo of coach to get the athletes there and Brooke and Scott are the people for that. The hook is simple do you want to go to a P5 school and wait your turn for the first few years and understand that the they are recruiting in better than your skill and talent level each and every year or do you wanna play for a school rich in tradition and be given the opportunity to make an immediate impact.
I use it as a fish in the pond scenario.
Do you the athlete wanna be a small fish in a really big pond or do you wanna be the Big fish in a small pond!!!!
The family first mentality plays very much a big part of things and Brooke and Scott have that dynamic about them which makes parents feel very at home with them.
What are the rules for recruiting overseas players for college? I remember that it did keep ODU in the spotlight for a while. And MT seems to be getting decent sized centers.
I can check and see how that works I am not familiar with the process but a coaching buddy of mine at South Florida is the guru of overseas players he has 60 to 70 % of his team as overseas players
Jose does a great job recruiting those kids and they are fun to watch and play a really fun style of basketball
If Brooke gets a big, I say we send her our recruiting for the guys too.
