We were a rent-a-win. Cheap, probably. Feels horrible.
But somehow, a 30-point loss doesn't feel as bad as a loss that should have been a win. Texas left no doubt who the better team was.
Re: W. Basketball. @LATechWBB, Texas Reunite in Old Rivalry
It was a 30 point loss because we were a scrimmage for Texas' freshmen for the final 2.5 quarters. If Texas wanted 130 points they would have put up 130 points.
For the younger Tech fans, this is what it was like (roles reversed) in the 1980's when Tech had the 6'4",6'4", 6'4",6'3", 6'3", 6'1" front court and annually lost only a very few games if any. Texas had 5 players that were bigger than any player on our roster tonight, so their guards could just shoot 3's all night knowing that Texas would get the rebound and layup if they missed. We’ll the last 10 years of mediocrity, will do that to that to a program. It will take a long time to attract the recruits and All Americans that we one could get with just a phone call.

I love the Techsters more than any sport Tech has, but we're kidding ourselves if we think even an infinite amount of time will ever let us even sniff that air again.
Re: W. Basketball. @LATechWBB, Texas Reunite in Old Rivalry
We knew this could be ugly and it was. We kept fighting till the end, though, which is encouraging. I just want us to gradually climb back up. To do that, we have to win conference championships first and get back to the tournament. My hope is that this team did not have their spirit crushed. We have a tough (but winnable) game coming up against a decent Clemson team next. They are about like Penn State. We need to just put this one behind us and move forward. There were no surprises for me last night. Texas will vie for a NC this year and I surely didn't think we were close to that level yet. Our players need to brush this one off, learn from it, and get to winning again now.

I used to hope as well but I have come to terms with the fact that the good ole days are gone and realistically a conference championship and perhaps an occasional trip to the tourney is our best hope. The landscape in which we built a dynasty that ran for more than a decade was when very few schools were investing in women's b-ball and we were one of the few. More and more through the 80s started to invest and in the 90s the larger conferences really started investing big. We started losing momentum in early 90s and by the mid 90s we where a tier lower than where we had been for many years. Since then we have fallen another tier or even two lower. The climb back to the top is not impossible (pert near) but the issue is not coaching, Brooke can coach. The issue is TALENT and we have very little that even remotely resembles what we were able to recruit back in the day. Back in the day we got our fair share if not more than of the best players in the nation. The talent gap is huge and not sure how you flip it with nothing to promote other than mediocrity. Again, I like Brooke as a coach and mentor for kids, I think she is doing a great job but she needs more talented players.

Yeah, but there's no excuse for this. It's still 5 human beings playing 5 human beings. It's not like Texas was playing 8 girls against our 5.
For the love of God, go sign some JUCO talent or something. It can't be that hard to find some ladies that aren't scared of playing a Big 12 team like Texas. When you start out trailing 40-9, that tells me that our "little girls" were very intimidated by Texas. (This is the coaches fault.) There's no way you'll convince me that our team played the best THEY could against Texas. If so, we need to go get some grown women to play this game.

Chanda Rigby announced the signing of Joymesia Howard on Wednesday, the nation's top-ranked junior college prospect.
Howard, a 6-foot-2 forward from Central Arizona College, is the No. 1 overall prospect on Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. The East St. Louis, Ill., native just completed her sophomore season at Central Arizona where she was twice named an NJCAA All-American and twice led the Vaqueras to the NJCAA Final Four.
Howard averaged 19.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game last season as she helped Central Arizona to a 31-4 overall record and an appearance in the NJCAA Final Four. Howard was named the Arizona Community College Athletics Conference (ACCAC) Player of the Year after helping the Vaqueras averaged 83.2 points per game, the eighth most in the nation.
Just one example. But yeah.....only TROY can do it. Goofball.

Which begs the question: Why is Tech wasting money on paying for TWO WBB head coaches?
Re: W. Basketball. @LATechWBB, Texas Reunite in Old Rivalry
They're co-head coaches in name only because of a state nepotism regulation. Tech's not paying 2 head coach salaries.

I thought he meant Summit. Did we have to pay him to leave?
