Would you rather beat LSU, Beat Cal, Win the WAC?
If we win the WAC - we are more than likely in the top 25 and at the very least getting top 25 votes -
Plus we are BOWLING and that's what it's all about in football -
Win the WAC. Nothing else is close.
How can anyone vote for anything OTHER than "Win the WAC"?!
Beating LSU and getting second place in the WAC would do more for our program, as far as getting the attention of the casual fan in North Louisiana, than just winning the WAC. And we would still be bowling.
Beat LSU. That means more in state than winning the WAC championship or winning a bowl game in Idaho or Cali. Beating LSU is something we'd always have. How many of us still talk about how we beat SEC champ Bama???
Winning the WAC would be a great accomplishment for Coach Dooley and his first-year staff. I also agree with Dwayne that we would get a few votes, and go to a bowl.
BUT...I voted for beating LSU since that would shut a lot of people up (at least for a while) and would offset any other losses we had during this season.
B.S. you go for the hardware. You could beat LSU and stay home during the bowl season. That would suck. Winning the WAC equals building the program. Like Dwayne said it could also be the first time EVER we finish the season in the top-25. It would also mean a certain bowl bid. I would rather have the respect of the nation for winning our conference, a top-25 ranking and a certain bowl bid than a win in Baton Rouge that would be dismissed by most as a fluke especially if it is not followed up by a conference championship.
I don't see how anything else is even remotely close.
I'd rather beat LSU and get national attention for winning a game then winning the WAC and getting killed in a bowl game by..i don't know...Clemson. Beating LSU while they are at the top would be the best thing by far. Nobody on tv, radio, etc. will be talking nationally about us in a bowl game, but it would be the only thing to talk about that week if we beat LSU
They wouldn't be talking about how good we were. They would be talking about how poorly LSU played and how they were overrated. We would quickly be dismissed as a fluke unless we beat them in a bowl game ala Boise St.
Fresno and Boise both took those paths. Fresno beat the BCS teams and got beaten in conference. Boise kept winning the WAC. Right now which football program would you rather be? I'd pick Boise.
Win the WAC, that gets you into a bowl game and means we have had a successful season. WE could beat cal or lsu and only win 5-6 games be sitting at home and it do nothing for us. Not even close really.
Win the WAC & go bowling! I'm with DFM on this one!
Would you rather be:
11-1 and win the WAC
OR
11-1 and beat LSU?
A lot of you are under the assumption that if we don't win the WAC, we won't go to a bowl.
just because you don't win the WAC does not mean your season was successful. for instance (look above) 11-1 and beating LSU would be a very successful season even if that means second in the WAC due to loosing to an undefeated __________ head-to-head. i think this all depends on the context you put it in.
Boise and Fresno also beat several teams in BCS conferences during those seasons. Up there, beating Oregon St. when they were ranked, gave them the same kind of press we would get if we beat someone like Texas Tech or A&M. Beating Washington got them the same kind of press we would get if we beat LSU. Of course, I'm not arguing that I would want to beat LSU at the expense of every other game on the schedule. But, we have already lost to Hawaii and Fresno, so our chances of winning the WAC are already diminished. So, beating LSU and ending up in the top half of the conference would be a very big accomplishment for this season (first year coaching staff, young roster, etc) and would bring good media coverage. Losing to LSU and winning the WAC is also not bad for us.
Beating LSU would also do a lot for us in recruiting.
I'm just glad we have a winning attitude again, and we are having this discussion rather than what was the greatest moment of JB3's life: the birth of his kids or beating a 2-9 Tulsa team.
My heart says beat lsu.
My head says win the WAC.
wtw
Remember we beat Bama twice in the middle of a 9-2 and 8-3 seasons when we were not in the WAC and did not go bowling and got very little attention for the rest of the season after the week immediately following the win -
Same argument can be made for beating LSU and not winning the WAC -
While it would be nice, in reality it would only be a fleeting moment during what may be a "nice" year....
I would rather vote "all of the above."
As great as it would be to beat LSU I would rather win the WAC... Who in the world would play an entire season just to win one game? WIN THE WAC CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Would you rather lose only to Hawaii (with Hawaii staying undefeated throughout the season) and Cal?
Or
Would you rather lose only to Cal and LSU?
...but the WAC champion is the only one who is GUARANTEED a bowl bid. Never forget that Benson is the commisioner of the WAC. Sitting at home with two losses while two other three or four loss teams go to WAC bowls could happen. Not likely, but with Benson it could happen.
I understand all of the arguments for saying the WAC, but the question is "Would You Rather". For ME, I would soooo rather beat LSU. That is something that the fans would hate as much as being the CO-national champions. I just can not even tell you how much I would LOVE that.
You mean this year? It's a little late to win the WAC or beat Cal. Next year it is win the WAC.
Win the WAC!! Tech goes bowling!!
Win the WAC.
Well... I would rather grind lswho into dust. If we won the WAC it would be great... but people seem to forget that we already did that... and it didn't really affect us that much. A win over lswho if nothing else would get us national recognition (if only for a week) and just like michigan and bama would stay on the surface of our memories for a long time. Plus I have some buddies that went to liquor state and it would just be so great to shut them up... then to top it off would kill their chances at a national title. Also if we had a lswho win + a decent number of W's (7/8) on our schedule I see no reason for us not to be bowling. In the end... I want to see them lose and us win. If it happens to be in the same game... then I think I might just explode from glee.:D:D:D
well obviously we would all love to win the wac, and have a chance to do it every year...but beating lsu...we would only need to do that once.
If the choice is only one, I would say win the WAC. But like others on here, taking a W in BR would be great!
For THIS program winning the WAC would be best but for me there would be nothing like kicking the corndogs square in the nuts.
If we can beat lsu there's no reason we can't win the WAC.
Beat LSU. Its not even close, especially this year. It would do more for growing our fanbase than winning the WAC.
If we were to pull off a victory at lsu, it would put them in a HUGE bind. They would not want to play us ever again, however, if they chickened out (see men's bball), we would be able to hold that over their heads. That would be unbelievable. I just wished they would have had the guts to play us in the Tim R. years. We beat their conference champs during that time and would have demolished lsu.
I think it would do more for our program and our conference to beat LSU and not quite win the WAC. If we beat LSU, we will gain more support locally as having a quality program and more people will come to see our other games. The eastern press would also feel they have a better comparison about what kind of football is played out west.
Remember 2005 when that was supposed to be Boise's 1st great year. Only problem was they went to Georgia and got stomped. Its one of those games they quickly buried in their recent successful history.
+ I think it would help our bowl chances on this side of the Rockies.
I am not out to bring down LSU on the field year in and year out like Tulane fans like to do. We have made it this far without them consistently on our schedule so I do view that we don't NEED the game. However, if the opportunity presents itself to build our profile in this state when its been so hard to get there for so long. HELL YEAH, beat LSU.
Really, its not unusual for so many fans to be more stoked about beating a certain team rather than wanting more a conference championship.
Over here in the SEC East all the teams are gunning for a spot at the top. BUT, you hear MORE fans concerned about beating their archrivals than anything else. Georgia WANTS to beat Florida. Some coaching jobs over hear are SAVED by those rivalry games even if the conference title wasn't in reach. I think a coach is heavily criticized if he wins the title along the way but loses to a hated rival.
I remember the way it felt after those wins at Alabama and when the Lady Techsters would beat Tennessee. Its just one of those great feelings.
[quote=RGTech98;533428] but LSU/Tech series doesn't make a rivalry...yet.[quote]
Oh, I totally agree with you. Our rivalry to me is Boise, Hawaii, and Fresno which to me are GREAT rivals to have. LSU is our instate game and one that we would like to win but a rival... no not yet. Of course a win on our part could shift that a little.:icon_wink:
Defeating LSU is of the utmost importance. Of course, they are not our rivals but a defeat at the hands of the dawgs in a year where they are considered one of the best if not the best team in the land would rock the college football world yet again. Louisiana Tech would benefit more from a victory over LSU than anything else at this point. There are so many intangibles that would we would be the benefactor of and of the tangibles, money donations would surge to aid this coach and what he is trying to do. Will it happen? I highly doubt it. Though, many said this I'm sure with Stanford vs USC and Appalachian St. vs Michigan. It can be done.
