Bruce does not have the authority to makes these decisions by himself.
So, if you want to hold BVD accountable for not accepting the I-Bowl bid, at least be honest about it and hold the other committee members accountable as well. This would include --but not necessarily be limited to-- Steve Davison, James Davison, Dr. Reneau, and possibly a handful of others, including at least ONE (1) individual who routinely posts on this board. :icon_wink: In short, many of our greatest and best supporters SCREWED this up, not just Bruce by by himself.
I'm not throwing these people under the bus because I know they mean more to LA Tech's long term success than some lousy I-Bowl against NLU in Shreveport. Much more. They made their decisions last week in the face of the "Perfect Storm". The combination of LA Tech finishing out its' last year in a conference (the WAC) with absolutely NO Leverage and the UNEXPECTED rise of NIU to a BCS bowl was not foreseen by anyone. Now I know many of you think you're smarter than the Davison's, and smarter than Dr Reneau --and of course you ALL think you're smarter than BVD-- but at some point LA Tech needs to put this behind us and MOVE ON.
Fact is, the 2012 season is OVER. We finished 9-3. That's not bad. We're fortunate that we've got time to hire a new Head football coach, and it's my understanding that we have a pool of outstanding candidates from which to choose a new leader. It's time to hire up, and recruit, recruit, recruit. Get on board.
HD
You are completely wrong HD. I KNOW the Davison's were not consulted, and I do not of know of any other booster that was consulted regarding any aspect of the bowl decision. I suspect that Reneau was consulted, but that is pure speculation. My support of BVDV in this case is simply because I think trying to get in another bowl was worth the risk of losing Indy. Simple as that.

I didn't think so. :icon_wink:

You better shut your damn mouth HD because you are way off base and utterly wrong.

Or what, wise guy? You're acting a little TOO defensive here. Don't tell me to shut my damn mouth. I don't live far enough away from you that we can't resolve this quickly.
What are you so defensive about? I've never known decisions like this to be made in a vaccum.

Probably shouldn't post your address so openly. Nice pool and house by the way. :icon_wink:

Hey. I want some of this action. I think I take you both. Is it whoever eats the most hot wings or the largest steak?

I agree. And I don't agree with HD a lot! lol
I know Bruce & Reneau are on that "committee" and I can assume the others on your list are. I don't beleive for a second LFR did not openly state that playing that game was not acceptable to him. He did so here and everyone that matters in the school knows who he is.
Dan is have way out the door. (And his little bark about finding what really happened is all smoke and mirrors)
And Bruce should be. (We do not need to start a new era at our school with someone elses problem.)
The "money people" will always have a say but I wish they woldn't let their egos get infront of what is best. Robbing the 31 seniors (and the rest of the team and students) of a bowl game will cost us. Surely sometime in the next 15-20 years one of these players will hit it big in the next energy boom (That happens right?). Who knows what their feeling will be about the school that robbed them of one last chance!
Re: We Need to Support Bruce Van De Velde
if i can interrupt the steel cage match for just a minute and get back to the original point of the thread, which is titled we need to support BVDV. because i am not and do not pretend to be an insider, i don't know who had the final say here on this decision...BVDV, reneau, a booster? but whoever it was needs to be escorted away from louisiana tech immediately and NEVER consulted or involved with this university ever again.
anyone who thinks it is better for tech (or any school outside maybe the top ten or so) to sit home then to play a bowl game (yes, even against ulm in shreveport) does not have any concept of what is best for the athletic program. screwing this up has gotten us negative national attention, hurt recruiting, and ruined 32 seniors tech careers.

Yeah, you shouldn't have interrupted and just let the match continue.
