Tech must cancel Grambling game
Tech's RPI and NCAAT resume can't afford a win vs. Grambling this week.
Burroughs needs to cancel it and replace it with a Top 50 opponent later in the season.
As the bubble program we are, we simply cannot afford to schedule Grambling in baseball anymore.
Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
Odds of this happening...
Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
It's not about sound decisions it's about being PC. When was the last time we played at Grambling? Our AD...

doesn't Tech split a series between Ruston & Grambling every season?
Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
They are 6 miles down the road... As long as we don't lose tot hem like we did a few years ago. I don't see how we don't play them. I'm definitely against playing them in a weekend series like we did years ago, but at least 1 mid week game per year should be fine. Every school we play can't be a top 50 RPI.

I agree with you on playing more top 50 teams, but the schedule is set. I think it would be a PR nightmare if we cancelled the game. We just need to keep winning... I am pleasantly surprised with how good our pitching is. With the guys we lost last year, I didn't see it as the strength to our team as it seems to be. I just hope our starters don't get too tired as the season goes on. Does CUSA keep stats on innings pitched? I'd like to see our top 3 guys on IP compared to the weekend starters in the conference.

Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
Think we can cut back to one game vs Grambling in the future but no way we cancel the game after agreeing to play there. We had alot of question marks coming into the season and I am sure that is why we had SIUE on the schedule and several others. Also, some of the teams we had scheduled have not been as strong as years past-ull, mcneese, pepperdine, even nwst and lsu to an extent. Next year we return Wichita state series. Are they top 100 this year? I expect the schedule to be tougher as well.
Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
Yeah you dont just cancel a game two days out because it is an inconvenience. Particularly when that inconvenience you have is mostly known before the season starts. Just schedule them once.

No! We almost always win them both. ;)
Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
Just looked at updated d1 rpi and usm non-conf sos is worse than ours 222 vs 207. Their overall sos is 150 vs our 197. They are 38 and we are 58 currently.

Do y'all want to go to the NCAA Tournament like we did 2 years ago? Or are y'all too worried about hurting Grambling's feelings and rather watch other teams in the NCAA Tournament like last year because our coach was too stubborn to find a couple solid replacements for our rainouts?
Guys, teams cancel on SWAC teams every year for RPI/resume reasons. Bubble programs can't afford to schedule SWAC teams in any sport. Beating them by 50 still hurts you thanks to the system. It's not Tech's fault RPI, the Selection Committee, and the SWAC are all so awful.
Have y'all looked at our current resume or any of the NCAA projections? We are projected OUT of the NCAA Tournament at 22-8 overall, C-USA 1st place because our conference and especially our OOC schedule suck this year. This may be worst season in C-USA baseball history. Rice is hot garbage right now.
- Of our 22 wins, only 2 are quality Top 100 wins.
- USM (39) and UTSA (91) are the only Top 100 C-USA teams on our schedule.
- We only have 2 midweek Top 100 games remaining: UALR (41) and LSU (81).
- ULL sucks this year. Cajuns have lost all 7 weekend series so far.
- Grambling is one of the worst teams in the country as usual (#270 of 297).
Basically, we only have 2 quality wins and very few opportunities for any more. You gotta rack up those quality wins to get an at-large bid.
The only thing playing Grambling on Tuesday can do is hurt Tech. Could drop us 10 RPI spots even if we beat them by 100.
PR nightmare? lol. Nobody listens to our #GramFam beat writer. It's one baseball game. One Grambling baseball game. Nobody cares. They don't even have 100 people show up at their games. We already played them once. We help out Grambling all the time letting them use our facility. People would understand. Like I said, potential NCAAT teams cancel on the SWAC every year. Really no big deal. And in the past we've done the opposite: Scheduled an additional game with Grambling to replace a rainout because we had no shot at an NCAAT bid and needed another game.
With our record, it shouldn't be hard to find a replacement game because we would boost anyone's RPI, and we would play it on the road.
Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
A total PC nightmare with Rev Sharpton being interviewed in Ruston by CNN's Anderson Cooper about university racial inequalities and biases in the deep south. Anderson Cooper will then talk about the real reasons, he hears in his personal LGBT circles, why Tech fired T. Witherspoon as our WBB HC. And of course Trump and Bush will get the blame along with global warming. At this point of the interview, the cameras will turn to the stands and field full of rainbow flags, pink pussy hats and BLM sign folks taking their seats on the hill by the track track. George Soros will have paid 100 pickup truck drivers to drive around the stadium and campus all day with the colors and flag of Dixie flying high and proud for CNN and MSNBC's cameras. Back in the studio Chris Mathews and Rachel Maddow are seen crying their eyes out while screaming "Where is justice? Where is peace?".
No thank you.

Re: Tech must cancel Grambling game
I don't think playing, and beating the crap out of, a team should hurt your power rating thingy. The risk should be losing to them. But, beating them easily should not negatively impact your chance of an at-large bid. Let's look at this logically, which I know is ridiculous when it comes to these NCAA selection committee things...
Grambling, like the whole SWAC, sucks. So, if you're legit good and deserving of an at-large bid, you should easily dispatch such teams. We often beat GSU by scores of 10-2 and worse. That's what ANY good college baseball team could be expected to do. So...the committee is reviewing us for a possible selection and sees we clobbered GSU...tch, tch, can't invite Tech, two of their games, out of 40+, were against Grambling who they beat easily. Now, had they NOT played those two games, well then, we could invite 'em.
Loyola-Chicago would NOT have gotten an at-large bid to The Dance. Let that roll around in your head a little bit. But, almighty Oklahoma got one...and they promptly got sent home by another so-called mid-major Rhode Island. You can't make this stuff up.
Please don't come back with "well, that's how the system works." Yeah....it does. But I'm lampooning "the system."
