Byrd FB ranked #62 by Rivals!
http://highschool.rivals.com/viewrankhs.asp?ra_key=819
Jumped 29 spots from last week.
Luckily they just look at scores and not actual stats. Like GeauxDawgs said, they turn the ball over too much to beat the teams on this list.
Other LA Schools
61. St. Paul's
63. John Curtis
73. Dutchtown
78. Neville
96. Jesuit
OTHERS BEING CONSIDERED: Breaux Bridge (La.), Lafayette (La.) Acadiana, Lafayette (La.) Carencro, Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More, West Monroe (La.) High.

While LaLaff may give us more comp than they have in the past, we should be in good shape vs. Memphis. Hope we get to play LaLaff in early December.
Re: Byrd FB ranked #62 by Rivals!
I've seen #18 once or twice and I think they are pretty good. :icon_wink:
Re: Byrd FB ranked #62 by Rivals!
St. Paul's at 61 huh. I'm sorry, but I just don't have a lot of respect for this team. We played them in week 2 or 3 in the dome (basically a home game for them) had them beat (defense was suffocating)then in the 3rd quarter leading 14-3 our starting qb loses his cool and takes a swing at an opposing player. He gets ejected and our backup qb comes in and has three fumbles on the qb/center exchange and two interception in five possesions. If we could have gained one more 1st down we could have run out the clock. Lost it 15-14. St. Pauls jumped from 6/7 in the polls to 1 because they beat a number 1 that never should have been 1. We have a decent team, just not a top five team imo so I am not buying St. Paul. If they are the best, 5A football in LA is really weak this year.
Re: Byrd FB ranked #62 by Rivals!
Yeah, I've seen St Paul once on tv this year and they're a solid team, but I have a hard time believing they're the #1 seed. It's like this every year. South LA media types fall in love with 5A teams down there and rarely give north La teams enought credit and north La teams usually win state. A prime example of this is Ouachita at #10?? That is a friggin' joke sports fans, no way they should be lower than #5. In fact on my bracket I've got Ouachita versus W.Monroe in the Dome with Byrd losing in the Semi Finals.

Guys, remember that the seedings are based on power points not rankings or polls. West Monroe has been #1 all season (in past seasons) and not gotten the #1 seeding come playoff time. Its all due to power points. That's why Ouachita is #10 and not higher.
Re: Byrd FB ranked #62 by Rivals!
Well, at least 32 teams in each classification, will tee it up, all 0-0 in the post season, and decide the issue on the field. No computers or human polls to decide who plays in the Dome.

So true. Good luck to all the teams.
Re: Byrd FB ranked #62 by Rivals!
Yep, power rankings :(. Acadiana suposedly lost 5 spots just because Northside had to forfiet its 5 victories.

Did NS use an ineligible player(s)? If so, I suppose someone thinks NS would have lost the games they won had they not had said player(s). I don't know the details.
And, maybe the power ranking system needs to be tweaked, again, I don't know the particulars of the system. But I will say, it's been the best system for choosing and seeding the teams. Anyway, one thing is sure, deserving teams will win their games and advance regardless of where they start.
Re: Byrd FB ranked #62 by Rivals!
Northside's rb or qb from last season moved to Morgan City to live with a relative but realized he wouldn't be able to stay with them. He moved back to Lafayette and re-enroled at NS. He was declared ineligible even though he never enrolled at MC or suited up for them. There could be more to it but that is what the paper reported.

I think the system is pretty good. You get 10 points for each of your wins, 1 point for each of your opponents wins, and 2 points per classification for a win against a bigger school. For example, this year Bastrop recieved 9 points for playing Neville (9-0, they had an open date). Had Bastrop beaten Neville, they would have recieved 18 points (10 for the win, oppponent had 8 wins). You sum the points from all games, and divide by 10 (possibly by 9 if you only 9 games, I don't know for sure). This is the power ranking system in cliff notes version.
This system seemes to reward playing quality opponents every week. This is one reason Bastrop would schedule smaller schools that had a decent (7-3'ish) record (and IMHO, Bradshaw wanted to boost his record). Plus, its a very simple system for fans to track. I just don't know how tie-breakers come into effect, or if you get penalized for only playing 9 games.
