How positive are you about this? From what I know, you are dead wrong.

Radio -
Game day programs -
That's the two things that TECH FANS listen to and read -
Want to get the TECH fans first -
Signage would be the next step -
Giveaways would be for ONE reason only - crowd EXCITEMENT - if we get a few posters out of it fine - if not, that's ok to -
NOTHING, I MEAN NOTHING - gets the crowd more fired up at a basketball game than a FREE TEESHIRT -
Re: Buy and giveaway things that can be worn

A cannon would not be wise unless, we fill up the red section and lots of people are in the blue. You would take someone's head off in the red unless you dropped the pressure. Then it wouldn't be exciting petering out the cannon for 20 yards.
We need a slingshot!

ok.
but can we still get a cannon to shoot stuff outside?
Re: Buy and giveaway things that can be worn
If people want to do shirts, then we will worry about a cannon.
I think radio and print advertising of the games is best for getting people to the games. The BLUE and the rest of us can get those new fans on their feet.

We just need to get that guy who was chucking balls at the Techster game last night (1/27). He was hitting people in the blue seats from the far side of the court.
Re: Buy and giveaway things that can be worn
I can see making T-shirts to sell to raise funds, but they'd have to be distinctive from the usual stuff we Tech fans can get. Maybe something with a coded message or something (that you would only know if you had been to the site). Then put the url on it as well.
But I think firedog is right, we need to narrowly target real fans first. Radio and print (especially any free coverage we can get) first, then signs that our out-of-towners can see on TV. Then a CHAMPS Corporate Sponsorship...?
Re: Buy and giveaway things that can be worn
I think an ad in the Tech Talk would be money well spent.
Re: Buy and giveaway things that can be worn
I don't know about spending money for Tech Talk; surely we can swing a free story or an editorial instead.

Placement, baby.
You want to dominate the page, or just get a couple of paragraphs in a briefs column? Unless something goes astray, I don't see BB&B dominating a page with a news story.
Besides, we'd be spending money with one of our own and controlling our message from being edited (if not libelous, of course).

My little editorial was titled "Graduate Critical of Athletic Facilities"...I thought they were a little harsh. The Tech Talk is a great idea because it catches the student's eye. If students could get some fire in them about Tech athletics, the whole dynamic would change. I think it'd be WELL worth whatever it costs to advertise in the Tech Talk...maybe attach a coupon to our add and give the kids free bred sticks somewhere when they buy a full priced item...just something to think about...college kids love food...I love food...I'm out, I'm hungry.
