People forget that TCU struggled mightily on the grid iron for 40 years before finally tasting success in the early 2000's. This "winning" stuff is still very new for TCU.
As someone previously posted, OU & Texas will be back. Meanwhile OSU, Texas Tech, and KSU are better than ever. And because it's been a member of the Big 12 the last 17 years, Baylor has a huge head start on the Frogs. And West Virginia ain't going away.
It's an uphill battle for TCU, any way you cut it. If they lose Patterson, the wheels could come off quickly.
I agree with your final statement. However, I would make the counterargument that as long as they have Patterson there's no chance they'll become a "doormat" and will continue their newfound winning tradition. In the changing landscape of college football, a decade is an eternity. High school prospects today only know TCU as a winning program. And while Patterson could leave at any moment, why would he at this point? He's turned down overture after overture to remain at TCU, where he's compensated very well and finally has a seat at the table with the game's biggest and best. And on the unlikely chance that he does leave, while the wheels could come off, TCU also could get even better, just as Boise did when it hired Petersen.
Re: Be Careful What You Wish For!
They spend so much more now, their football/baseball facilities are SO much better now than they were compared to their peers back then. No their facilities aren't on par with UT/OU but they are every bit as nice as most of their peers in the Big12. They are gonna be fine.
Conversely their BB facilities are a dump. And I mean a DUMP. It is no wonder they can't recruit talent there. UTA's new arena is much nicer. UNT's is nicer. The TAC is nicer. (Although TCU got the new video board we are still waiting on.)
Until TCU makes even the most minimal investment in Hoops expect for these results to continue.
But if you are ever in FTW. Take the time to check out the new FB Stadium. The team rooms, lounges, meeting rooms, coaches offices, locker rooms. Weightlifting and Indoor practice facilities. ....Top Notch. All of it. They are on point. And not just the inside. The outsides of these facilities, the facades, all well designed and manicured. A very Ivy League feel to it even though it is brand new.
Maybe other than the awesome baseball facility they have just funnelled all of their money into football and don't have much left for BB? I don't know.
Re: Be Careful What You Wish For!
Yeah but...some on this very forum said the Big 12 got the better of the deal gaining TCU and WVU while losing aTm and Mizzou to the SEC. I said the opposite and some took me to task over it.
How's that working out for the B12?
Well, regardless, one this is certain all 4 schools ended up in better conferences than they were in. So, I'm sure they're all happy, thankyaverymuch!
Re: Be Careful What You Wish For!
Better ask Kansas how they feel about TCU basketball right now (on E$PNU).
Sellout in Fort Worth and 13 minutes in there have been more media timeouts (3) than Kansas has points (2). 10-2 Frogs under 6:30 left in the half.
Re: Be Careful What You Wish For!
19-33 TCU 5 minutes into 2nd half...
Re: Be Careful What You Wish For!
First Big 12 win for TCU is its first Top 5 win ever....TCU beats Kansas 62-55.
