Alumni/Student Petition Website
Is there some sort of petition website where certified alumni/students can suggest ideas or question, and have it voted upon by alumni, wherein if it reaches a certain number of votes, the Tech administration will formally consider it (UK's government does something similar)?
It seems like it would be a great idea to me, it would aid in:- Alumni involvement and satisfaction (have a voice; students already have SGA)
- Increasing chances for Good Ideas to improve Tech
- Help the administration understand what is important to the Tech family (increased communication means happier family; get answers to questions you believe need answered; help Tech President understand what Alumni positions are on the ULS board)
- Potentially increase profits to be applied to Endowment, improved Teachers/Coaches, Facilities, etc. (involved alumni increase giving; implementation of excellent ideas increase revenue and decrease wasted spending;)
Of course, voting and suggestions should only be opened to alumni/students (not one of those, find an alumnus/student).
So, do we have one, or do you think it should be something Tech should implement?

SGA does things? I'm about to start my 5th year at Tech and I have never once had any interaction with SGA other than someone trying to campaign for it. I've never even heard of them doing anything, and I couldn't name one person who has served on SGA, ever. SGA may be our voice in theory, but I'm not sure how much of a voice it is (other than the members of SGA speaking their mind). I've certainly never been asked for my opinion on anything.

Some SGA reps are better than others. Take notes on the ones who have served during your time at Tech. It's likely all will end up being successful and those who choose politics will have the same traits 20 years from now that they did when they were running for office at Tech. Not all those traits will be good ones. Talking a good game in always a trait of a politician.

Representative government is a 2-way street... Their offices, meetings, email, and social media are open every week, and there used to be a Tech Talk reporter at every meeting for an article in the school paper each week (don't know if that's still the case). If you don't like your representatives, you can vote them out or even better run or apply yourself. Like any government, they aren't perfect, but remember Tech's SGA members are volunteers who serve students' interests at Tech.
If not for SGA, there would be no student Homecoming Week events, The Big Event, Who's Who, Dawg Haul, Welcome Week events, Hide-Away Park, free scantrons, organization grants, student org matching funds, short-term student loans each quarter until students get their refund checks, golf cart escorts, Memorial Scholarship, etc.

The SGA President (I believe it was Allison East, at the time) was instrumental in getting out the vote for the student fee to help support the DAC.

SGA was behind the "Get More" referendum in 2004, "Change for Change" referendum in 2007, and "Enhancement Fee" referendum in 2012. Each of them benefited Tech Athletics, and each passed with overwhelming student support. I think it's time for another self-assessed student fee.

Besides the SGA, does anyone have any input on my proposal?

I think the University issuing an annual online survey would accomplish those goals you presented.
Re: Alumni/Student Petition Website
I've never sent an email to Dr. Guice when he did not repond in a positive manner. He will definately see that the idea is discussed and see to it that it gets done if presented properly.
Our AD, on the other hand is totally clueless on how to handle his business.

So maybe we can propose such an annual survey to Dr. Guice to make all aspects of Tech accountable to such alumni requests (including our reticent AD)?
