I wish they could restrict the number of throw away games out AD could schedule.
Very good idea. Yes, they need to add restrictions on crap scheduling.
1 PC game per year for all of La Tech athletics. Be very judicious with where you put it.
We owe games to Grambling in Grambling, Southern in BR, and whatever team from Mississippi that will draw the most attention to our AD's resume. It's not who we are, but who his bogus ass is.
I'm not a fan of the "pod" system
Address rpi by who you schedule OOC and restrict certain games
Everything could end up FUBAR with the pod system at season's end
No concern over the top seeds knocking each other out of contention for an at-large bid? That seems more likely than an upset against Florida Titanic.
I'm sure they could use some formulas to predict the season RPI. Use KenPom or someone.
Everyone plays all 13 schools plus their travel partner
The last 4 games could be scheduled based on predicted RPI.
That and the ability to move from 6th to 4th with four conference games remaining - 11th to 10 or better etc
What if there are ties with the 4 games remaining - how will they be broken?
All it takes is ONE dud in the group - last year the top 5 were 30, 32, 74, 78 and 184...
Not really a lot of potential BUMP in there for rpi purposes
What you want to do is try to control the rpi through SOS conference WIDE where everyone benefits with a higher rpi base
Then two or three years down the road maybe go to the pod system where the top 5 are 16, 32, 48, 56 and 75 - then you can get an RPI boost for those schools potentially
I don't know the ends and outs of all the options but I LOVE seeing CUSA being proactive about this issue.
A few years back, I proposed a setup similar to this for football.
It was vetoed by PawDawg.
Our beat writer is the only C-USA beat writer who hasn't written anything about this new MBB scheduling format. #GramFam
He does it intentionally. Such a snowflake! Aaron Deitrich got this scoop weeks ago, but nobody picked up on it.
IMO, the most progressive thing C-USA could do is to just forget the tournament champion getting the bid. No way that is fair to a one bid league. I appreciate the effort by our peeps, but we will still be a one bid league. G5 (less the American) RPI has not mattered to the selection committee in many years right?
