Distinguished Tech Alum, Dr. Woodie Flowers (BS Mech Engr '65) passed recently
A childhood friend, roommate at Tech, with an amazing life story passed from medical complications recently.
Woodie was something special. If you knew him, you likely agree, but if you knew where he came from, what he endured, and all the accolades of his over his life after Tech, you know our real loss.

Was he not from Jena, LA? He later went to MIT after Louisiana Tech, is that the guy I am thinking of?

I was sorry to hear of his passing. A former boss of mine was a colleague of his on the MIT faculty; he always spoke extremely highly of Dr. Flowers.

Yes, that would be Woodie, BS Mech Engr '65. He passed away with a whole bunch more "letters" after his name.
My fond memories were about our gang out in the middle of a cow pasture launching our rockets. We made them out of just about everything. I (the chemist) was "manager of propellants." Woodie was project manager and lead spokesperson.
Most of our projectiles were propelled with a white lead, sulfur and "proprietary" nitrate mix.
After a few "launches," the friendly Sheriff deputy convinced us we'd have to find another launch pad … in another parish.:D
