C-USA Conference Expansion present ...... future
Here's an interview with Dr. Steve Ballard (ECU Chancellor) replay from yesterday afternoon (May 8th) on Pirate Radio 1250. Has some good info if you have the time to listen.

The interview starts about the 4 minute point.

Re: C-USA Conference Expansion present ...... future
They were looking for geography (for the fans/athletes) and big markets (for the revenue). If someone would have told me a month ago that ODU, Charlotte, and UTSA would receive invites, I would be sweating bullets.

I really like ECU's Dr Ballard! A straight forward, practical man. But he's also open and friendly. Tech will benefit being associated with a man like that!

Me too! I really like his candid comments. Fox & Co...let our folks at Tech hear some of this interview...this is some good stuff!! Loved what Dr Ballard said at the end of that little segment: "Don't let some group of people who call themselves The Big East try to tell the Pirates 'who they are' --We Don't Need That." :)
NICE!
Re: C-USA Conference Expansion present ...... future
He talked about media contracts and hit a point that has been discussed so many times on this board. He made a point of saying the networks will only consider TV sets within 75 miles of the university. Dr. Ballard said he has told the CUSA media consultants and the networks this is stupid but that's what they do.
I also found it interesting for him to "call out" other conferences and university presidents to not let ESPN dictate week day night games for football. It's bad for the athletes who won't go to class the next day. If everyone will stop rolling over, the practice will stop. FOX did not make that part of their contract and ESPN did, so that's at least part of the reason CUSA's with FOX now.

I like having college football on week nights. Schools that have no chance of getting nationally televised on a saturday night get can get that opportunity during the week.

Here's a video our AD Terry Holland did last year ... defines ECU athletics and gives an overview of our facilities.

You know, I'm starting to like ECU more and more now that I'm getting to know y'all a bit better. Thanks for the posts!
Re: C-USA Conference Expansion present ...... future
I've long considered one of the advantages to C*USA being that not all of the televised games are shoveled into weeknights. They might be on CBSSN and thus not accessible to a lot of people, but they were more likely to be on Saturday. That being said, we've had to play our fair share of weeknight games even with the new contract.

ECU and its fans have a repupation as being one of the classier teams to visit Memphis for the Liberty Bowl in recent years. This from reports and musing of restaurant, hotel, and bar employees and staff.
The worst would be Arkansas.

Tech, Grambling, NW State, ULM, LSUS, and Southern Arkansas within a 75 mile radius. That's ridiculous!
