He may still get it for defense. I am not familiar with traditions. I know we can have two of the same number as long as they are not on the field at the same time, but there may be some traditional significance to it (number 1) that I don't know of. Who wore it last year? I can't remember anybody but Scott and that was only for the Rice game. Of course Dixon wore it in the bowl game after Henderson got hurt and Dixon's number got torn off.
Re: Excerpts from Today's Football Conference
Maybe he wants to keep the same number he wore as a first team freshman all-American.
Re: Excerpts from Today's Football Conference
He told Skip he was fine with 21 per what Skip said at blitz in Shreveport.

Glad somebody asked our coach about it. He must have told the story of him wanting #1 a dozen times last year. He told that story almost as many times as he said "rockstar".

Which miniscule compared to the amount of times this board used “Rockstar” last year. He probably only said it like twice, and you guys carried it the rest of the way.

Heroes get remembered, rockstars never die.

Yea, some of us probably overused that term last year, but hey, we did a good job of it anyway!:D
Re: Excerpts from Today's Football Conference
Twice is hilarious...
Over/Under on how many times he used it from spring of 2017 to the beginnin of the season?
20
He overuses every one of his phrases.
Re: Excerpts from Today's Football Conference
I remember his calling Barnes a "Rock Star" and, before that, he called Diaz a Rock Star. I don't even remember him calling J'Mar a rock star but I'm not saying he didn't.
Re: Excerpts from Today's Football Conference
But PawDawg likes to gripe so I let him. :D
I still chuckle when he got up in arms because Juluke thought Boston Scott was better than Blake Martin. haha

Yeah, PawDawg likes to gripe about head scratching moves by our HC like special teams, playing juco lbs who flunk out, but then still get to use our facilities to train for pro day, and the clock management of a 6th grade coach.
Juluke/Holtz played others ahead of a proven senior back in Blake Martin. Martin had earned his spot and continued to do his job when he got in the games. haha
Re: Excerpts from Today's Football Conference
Not that I disagree with what you're saying but you seem to limit your observations to what is negatively critical. Those "gripes" color the majority of your commentary. Juluke wanted to play Boston ahead of Blake because he thought Boston was better than Blake. I don't feel like going back but you were pushing some other kind of narrative about all that back then. There are some head-scratching moves for sure. Nothing wrong with discussing them. But if that's all you want to discuss, people quit listening.

I thought Blake Martin was very under used. I never understood it.
