Tech @ UT: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Just finished watching the replay.
The Good- Our offense moved the ball well between the twenties.
- Smoke Harris is the real deal
- WR corp is much better than last year (Stanley, Graham, and Hebert played big)
- J'Mar looked more crips and I only counted 2 terrible passes (the pick six was the worst and missing Powell when he was wide open)
- Jackson and Taylor were the bright spots on D. Both played fast and loose...that can be a blessing and a curse.
The Bad
- Defense looked like they were lost too often (I attribute this to the new scheme...there's ALWAYS a learning curve and we're not there yet)
- We got tight and couldn't finish on offense.
- Some of our DEs that are not LBs really struggled in coverage. Didn't help that they were playing a very good team.
The Ugly- Special teams were abysmal.
- We should be able to nail 43 yard FGs all day long.
- We didn't punt much, but that was shaky.
- I liked Harris in the return game...mainly because he called the fair catch when he was supposed to.
- Skip said on Tim Fletcher this morning that he needs to go more conservative.
Texas looked like the real deal. I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat LSU. CUSA is down. We have the talent to win the conference. That doesn't mean we will, but I didn't find the scoreboard to be an accurate reflection of how we played. YMMV

That means even more predictable play calling...:bomb:

More conservative than a delayed handoff for no gain?
-
Re: Tech @ UT: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
We need more of the delayed draw. That play should be our bread and butter...

Make our FGs, and subtract points off TOs, and the final score is 21-20. Still a L, but a better representation of this team's ability.

Better yet, turn those field goals into touchdowns and throw in a few more that i wish we had, then take away Texas TDs and we dominated them. Doesn't reflect reality, but it's my prefered scenario.

Re: Tech @ UT: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Good - made it through Game 1 without any injuries to key players (at least as far as i can tell).
- the remaining 11 games should be easier and winnable.
- WR's look to have a lot of potential (Hardy, Stanley, Graham, Herbert, Powell, Harris)
-clearly had the best uniforms
Bad - no pass rush
- year 1-game 1 of working in a new defensive scheme
- Henderson may be averaging one fumble in every game he has entered.
- the J'Mar deep pass
- LB Baldwin = 1 tackle
-the remaining 11 games should be easier and winnable.:((
Ugly - we are borderline FG University. If you are going to miss two 43 yd FG's then at least show you can kick the ball that distance.
-the remaining 11 games should be easier and winnable. :furious3:

Re: Tech @ UT: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
It reminds me of the loss against OU a few years back. Should have been a closer loss. Also, won't be surprised if we play for the conference championship like that year.
Best offense since Higgins, defense should settle in.

I'm starting to think some of y'all watched a different game.

I thought of that year as well. We also lost to NW State and ODU that year. They can move past this game. We’ll just see if they will.

Amik is the team leader. We will bounce back and he will have an incredible year as a CB. We are so lucky to have him.

Re: Tech @ UT: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
I had to double check to make sure, but we only punted twice against Texas.

2 punts
2 TDs
2 missed FGs
3 TOs
In most cases, only 2 punts would be a good sign. In context here though, it aint real impressive.
