Our new Beat writer had him projected to be drafted in 2nd round. So like with NFL- undrafted NBA prospects have a shot as free agent?

Very long shot ..................... Super long shot, in fact.
Re: Erik McCree to the Houston Rockets
Bad news for McCree is the Rockets also signed a more highly rated SF from Georgetown LJ Peak.
Re: Erik McCree to the Houston Rockets
Odds that an undrafted free agent ever gets a roster spot in the NBA are slim to none. Difficult enough for second round picks.

Actually they have a higher % chance than an undrafted NFL free agent

Those numbers got me curious.
What exactly are those percentages? Percentage of players on rosters who were UDFAs? Or percentage of UDFAs who actually make rosters? Because those are two very different things.
I'd also be curious as to how many of the NBA UDFAs are foreigners.
The NBA is definitely the toughest major pro league to make it in.
McCree was a 3rd round talent, but the problem is the NBA obviously doesn't have a 3rd round. In the NFL and MLB, everybody praises 3rd round picks as high selections.
Re: Erik McCree to the Houston Rockets
The good news for someone like Erik is the NBA is fully committed to turning the G-League into a real minor league. Salaries are increasing. Guys can make a living -- maybe not eight figures, but good money -- for playing in the G-League. If he impresses enough during the NBA Summer League, Erik might be able to get one of the new two-way contracts between the NBA and the G-League.

I think that's the kicker - probably a very high percentage of that # is foreign players who sign as Undrafted Free agents
That number is percentage on active rosters - nba should be higher because their are 60? picks annually and fewer slots to fill which translates into a higher percentage -

"Going undrafted isn't always a bad thing. 19 of the 30 second round picks played in the NBA last year and 22 undrafted guys got run."
