Who Should Tech Consider to Fill the Vacant Football Coach Positions?
At this point there are two positions to fill - Offensive Line and Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers. There may be more before all is said and done. Who would be a good fit for Tech that Tech could afford to pay?
Re: Who Should Tech Consider to Fill the Vacant Football Coach Positions?
Randy Shannon for the latter

Ed Orgeron is an intriguing option for the DC position. His recruiting skills alone would be a huge asset. His specialty is d-line, so I'm not sure if he'd be a good option to cover the linebackers.

Shannon is getting paid 400k to be the lb coach/recruiting coordinator at Florida. We will probably play half of that. The ONLY way we get him is if he has the foresight to be a DC (obviously paid off for Diaz). He's my favorite but I don't think we'll get him.

What about Ellis Johnson cut from Auburn?
Re: Who Should Tech Consider to Fill the Vacant Football Coach Positions?
Anyone but Ellis Johnson!

Ellis Johnson? What in the wide world of sports has he done?

This and this! ELLLLLLLLLLLLoss Johnson would be the worst hire we could possibly make. As I posted in another thread, he'll be forever known as the guy who killed Southern Miss football. He'd be a recruiting nightmare. Avoid him like the plague.

10-year SEC DC. Top 10 defense at Alabama, 3 top 15 defenses at SC including 4th in 2011. Diaz coached LBs so we have to cover that. Johnson coached LB's at Alabama for 4 years, ECU for 3 years and the citadel for 1 year.
Re: Who Should Tech Consider to Fill the Vacant Football Coach Positions?
He's also 163 years old and killed Southern Miss football.
Re: Who Should Tech Consider to Fill the Vacant Football Coach Positions?
I think Bill Clark would be excellent. If Skip can't find someone excellent, I wouldn't mind promoting a current coach to keep the same system in place.
Re: Who Should Tech Consider to Fill the Vacant Football Coach Positions?
Fletcher's Radio show through out the name Ed Orgeron as Diaz's replacement this morning.
No DC experience (some HC experience though), wants back in the game, but isn't going to get the shot as DC at the big money schools without proving himself first. Great recruiter with LOTS of regional ties!
Thoughts?
