I want to win games, of course. So in that sense, they matter.
What else is there beyond the tournament?
Having entertaining games? I'll grant that. Is beating up bad teams entertainment these days? Maybe it's all we can get, I guess.
Better placement in the tournament?

That's still a tournament-related goal. Wait, are we talking the Dance? or C-USA.
I think I misread you as saying there was some other goal that was unrelated to the tournament directly.

That's a really dumb post -
We cannot control the RPI of our in conference brethren
Especially considering the fact that our conference RPI has taken a significant jump
Every game matters - just keep winning
Especially considering the fact we have home games remaining against UAB, ODU and Middle - all which are string rpi teams
It matters in seeding, recruiting, and more importantly overall perception of the program
It matters about the program getting into EXEMPT tournaments in future years to get higher RPI competition in more neutral settings
Every game matters - regardless of opponent, regardless of rpi

That makes sense.
I'm not necessarily talking about this game in particular, we can't help our conference mates.
Mostly our OOC *because* of our conference mates.
I want to cautiously avoid back-patting when we go on a win streak against opponents that we should never be losing to (though that's dangerous to say in BB).

We are basically 151 in rpi out of 351 in mbb basically top 43% - and that's in what we would classify is a big off year
Football we finished what 84 out of 131 in football basically lower third even with a "bowl win" -
Our folks need to compare apples tp apples and oranges to oranges -
Remember we are just two games out of 4th in the basketball standings with half the conference slate remaining
These games are far from meaningless

And THEY ALL MATTER when you're sitting there in the TAC rooting for OUR team and OUR school. I get close to our bulldogs, get excited for them, hurt for them. Love seeing their smiles when they win, how they interact with fans and each other win or lose. And... it's always Louisiana Tech, our alma mater. All may not have the same big picture significance, but THEY ALL MATTER.
Re: M. Basketball. Bulldogs Host Travel Partner Golden Eagles in White Out Game
Yes. Every game matters. I can't stand it when folks simplify college basketball to "only the NCAA Tourney matters." That thoughtless mantra is so far from the truth.
To the folks who like to brand C-USA as a "1-bid-league," we have two teams in the at-large hunt this year.
The one goal I'd like to see met to try to salvage something this season is to win at least 20 games to keep that streak alive. We will likely be cutting it close. KenPom has us with 18 wins entering the C-USA Tourney but favored in individual games to get us to 19 wins.
Gotta take care of business in Florida this week and bring home two wins.
