That's clever. I think that is why it will be hard to recover... we don't make anything! But the economy collapsed because the government (liberals) "felt" that poor people had a right to own a home.

Where is the right to homeownership spelled out in the constitution. Nobody has the "right" to own a home.

Johnny, you beat me to it. But everyone has an opportunity to go after what they can afford.
Of course the whole housing disaster occurred because this was ignored by both lenders and buyers...

I believe the Declaration of Independence (which is one of our founding documents) said the men had the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Making home ownership is what government should be doing. It should be done in a responsible way however.

Behold, the (il)logic that is sinking this country.
Amazing...and sad.

I agree. It is sad that some want to enjoy their short time on this earth at the expense of others.

Yet, you continue to subject us to the torture of your moronic posts. Ironic?

No you don't. My post had nothing to do with that. My post was about how insane it is that one can equate the life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to a "RIGHT" to own a home. It's absolutely nuts.
What other rights fall under the pursuit of happiness? I want a boat, but I'm officially BELOW the poverty line. Should the government provide me with a boat because it will make me happy?

Look if you don't like the Life, Liberty, and pursuit of happiness clause then take it up with Thomas Jefferson. No, seriously, home ownership is good for stabilizing families and it is good for the economy. The latest economic disaster was created because of predatory lenders and greed.

By "others", I'm guessing that you would be including those (illegal aliens) who shouldn't be here in the first place ??
CA has some experience with that.

The Declaration of Independence does not have any clauses that empower any government to do anything (except to no longer answer to the king).

Your're right but it was those principles in which we separated ourselves from the British and under those same principles we began our nation. The Bill of rights essentially is that clause just in more detail.
