Top Player Accolades of 2017
Which players do you think make all Conference (or even all American)? Do we have a chance at any top player awards? Any predictions on players being drafted)
My predictions based on my limited knowledge:
All Conference (Ferguson, Barnes, J'Mar (Honorable Mention), Dugas, McKnight (HM), Craft (HM), Scott (HM), Canty (HM))
All American (Ferguson)
Award (Ferguson)
Draft (Ferguson (2nd), maybe 2 more?)
Re: Top Player Accolades of 2017
O'Shea Dugas and Jaylon Ferguson will both be "All-World" players for us in 2017, and I think both will enter the NFL draft in the spring.

Dugas enters this season among the country’s best interior linemen, landing a spot on the Outland Trophy watch list.
Dugas, the Lafayette native, started 11 games in 2016 on the offensive line that gave up 3.71 tackles for loss per game, which was third best in the nation, for a Tech offense that ranked second nationally in scoring with 44.3 points per game, ninth in total offense at 514.7 yards.

Here's a really good article in SBNation about many of our 2017 players. The article is dated August 3rd. Apologies if already posted.

Do you think Ferguson or Dugas can earn some All American honors?

I don't know about players but Coach Holtz most definitely will bring home another COY award.

I've gotta wonder what PD/MD's acronym for him will be then
Re: Top Player Accolades of 2017
I may be slightly optimistic, but I think this is going to be the most decorated team in Louisiana Tech history. In addition to being 13-0 heading into the Sugar Bowl against Alabama I think our Bulldogs will crush the postseason awards.
Skip Holtz – The Home Depot Award (National Coach of the Year), CUSA Coach of the Year.
J’Mar Smith – Heisman Trophy winner, Walter Camp winner, Maxwell Award Runner-up, Davey O’Brien Award winner, 1st team All-American, 1st team CUSA, first-round draft pick.
Jaylon Ferguson – Bronco Nagurski Award winner, Chuck Bednarik Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy runner-up, Ted Hendricks Award winner, 1st team All-American, 1st team CUSA, Top 10 draft pick.
O’Shea Dugas – Outland Trophy Award finalist, Vince Lombardi/Rotary Award finalist, 2nd team All -American, 1st team CUSA, second round draft pick.
Jonathon Barnes – Lou Groza Award finalist, Honorable Mention All-American, 1st team CUSA, draft pick.
Jarred Craft – 1st team CUSA, Honorable Mention All-American, Doak Walker Award finalist, draft pick.
Sam McKnight – 2nd team CUSA, John Mackey Award finalist, Honorable Mention All-American.
Secdrick Cooper – 2nd team CUSA, Jim Thorpe Award finalist, Honorable Mention All-American, third-round draft pick.
Russell Farris – 2nd team CUSA, Dick Butkus Award semi-finalist, draft pick.
Deldrick Canty – CUSA Honorable Mention, draft pick.
Of course, injuries, suspensions or eligibilitycould play a part in these predictions.
The question I have is, what kind of chance do we have against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl?

No doubt, the game will end like in 1997/1999 ;) , but on Ferguson and J'Mar, will they only be 1st Team All American in a few publications, or are we talking UNANIMOUS 1st Team All American?!

Smith is consensus, but Ferguson is unanimous. Thanks for asking for the clarification. I hope you are correct about the Alabama game. I feel confident we beat the winner of Ohio State/Florida State for the national championship, if that is the case. Unfortunately, Skip leaves for Ole Miss if this plays out.

I could see Amik garnering some Freshman All American honors. Do y'all think anyone else could garner Freshman AA honors (Hardy maybe)?

Good catch! So do I.
How about Willie Baker, 6-3 240 DE.

Oh sure. I think both can.
By the way, one reason I'm optimistic THIS year is because we've had almost no coaching turnover since last season. I think I read that we lost one assistant coach in the off season. Our coaches should know these players --and their individual skills-- very well by now. It will be interesting to see how this coaching stability impacts our team.

And we have 7 home games scheduled for the first time since I became a Louisiana Tech fan in the late 1970's. Playing at least 7 home games annually was U of Miami AD Sam Jankovich's #1 scheduling priority for winning multiple national championships in the 1980's.
