I have a feeling this one is going to get ugly.
Gru and Cameron went to high school, college, and now work at SMU together.
Smu -13.5
Respect for the pony-D logo
SMU internet fan snobbery.

"Scary backwoods trap game, with Uncle Billy Joe officiating. This will be their biggest home game of the season. They ran SMU out of the stadium, in the Frisco Bowl and Skip Holtz is still the head coach. Forecast of thunderstorms and high humidity. SMU 15 point favorite.....what do ya think?"
They think we have homer refs?!
lolz.
SMU 46
Tech 27
SMU controls the entire game.
Why is it that every team we ever play is always our biggest game ever? Like, our players have dreamed their whole lives about beating that team? It's always great to have the chance to beat P5 schools, sure. And you're always going to want to beat localish teams, or conference rivals, or teams you haven't played in a long time, or teams you play often, or teams you beat the last time, or teams you lost to last time, or whatever.
But every single team we ever play seems to think they're the only team we think about. Our "super bowl." Every. Single. Team.
I guess it's true that there are degrees to this kind of thing, but I'm always skeptical of the X team's going to be "up" for Y game concept. Maybe that's a real thing, but if so it can't be true every week.
I have a feeling Holtz is hyperventilating nonstop trying to figure out how he’s going to keep SMU from absolutely embarrassing him black and blue this weekend. I’m also pretty sure Dykes would love to throttle Tech as bad as he can. He’s now doubly pissed with Tech between the bowl game massacre and the Texas A&M fan walkout game.
They will beat us by 21 points. On a high note, at least this week we don’t have to worry about a 4th quarter meltdown.
I sense the players are coming together as a team. I think we will be up for this one. Tech 38, SMU 31

It took 45 to win Saturday. I’m thinking it takes that again this weekend.
I think this will be a shootout. If Tech wins, it'll be by one score. I see an SMU win by two touchdowns as more likely though.
If we are 1-2 this time next week we'll be right where most thought we'd be.
There is just no possible way we could lose to SMU on our home field. Just like I said about Tulane.
Yes, we MUST compete. :D
I think so too. As I stated in another thread, Tech just faced two teams (Miss St & SLU) that passed the football 106 times in 2 games. That's probably more in two games than Tech will see the rest of the season. Yes, Dykes is also known for passing the football, but he only passed it 33 times last week in SMU's win over UNT. Besides, IMO, SMU is just not as good as either of the two teams we just faced. And we all know Dykes knows N-O-T-H-I-N-Gabout defense.
Dawgs 41
SMU 34
Maybe we should start a rumor that Sonny is in consideration for the USC job. We all know he mails it in when someone better comes calling.
Defense needs to step it up for the full 60 minutes!
Special teams can't let long returns on punts and kick offs
NO missed field goals
The obvious things that have hurts us. And Skippy needs to push the throttle full bore and not let up for the full 60 minutes. This "sit on the lead" and prevent crap has to go away!
This week should be an AAC crew anyway. Expect the visiting team's conference will be doing the assigning for this home-and-home series.
And through weeks 0-2, three of the C-USA referees who headed the seven crews that worked conference games last year haven't worked any of the 29 games involving C-USA teams. Not good news because the refs who look to be the replacements are worse if that is possible, including the ref who worked the Tech-SLU game. That ref added 10-15 minutes to the length of the game by calling a zebra convention before making any calls.
One of the worst "managed" games by the zebras I have seen. Not the worst "called" game though. I have seen many much worse than this one. Namely the 1999 game at UL-Drunkards and their local Laughing-at zebras. Amazing we escaped with the 41-31 win given the 19 flags for over 200 yards in penalties.
The guys at the SLU seemed lost and unsure of themselves, but they did mostly get the calls right. Ultimately the refs did not influence/change the outcome of the game.
So we have famous coaches' sons squaring off at the Joe this weekend. Need to invite Derek Dooley to the mix.
Line is now 12.5. Eternal optimist in me says this is possibly the game that Holtz wins back some fans. He doesn’t want to lose to the guy he replaced let alone dumptrucked in their previous meeting. Defense is capable of creating turnovers if they are cut loose. Keeping the faith that I will return to Ruston having watched our middle school boys win cross country only to add to our jubilation by winning a non conference game!
This is a must win for out program but only a hope to compete for those who really are only concerned with promotion of coach compete
no way we win this game. Skip can't/won't get the team up for it.
I didn't realize until just now that there are two coaches on that SMU staff that Skip replaced. I didn't know their DC is Jim Leavitt (who was at USF before Skip).
Weird.
It is game day! Go dawgs! Beat the ponies.
Go dawgs!!!!!!!!
It was the white hat who appeared to be the problem.
I assume we have the CBSSN announcers at the Joe rather than calling the game in their boxers at home.
Injury report...
Graham likely to be back.
Henry-Brooks out.
Cole and Kendzior are questionable.
C-USA crew with Patrick Foy as white hat.
SMU wins the toss and defers. Tech will receive.
Teddy been calling Luke - Mcowen for years. We should thank Origin Bank for BEING ever loyal BE.
Think we gained more yards from the penalty than play.
1 minute 32 seconds of possession.
Levi Bell holding a knee. Not good.
So... we still have our people sporting that damn puppy...
the “app” says no events scheduled today..
Nice throw and catch.
Right. In. The. Bucket. And Harris turns on the JATO rocket. Perfection
So, we scored? Where is the excitement? Come on fellas!
TD, now lets stop them again!
Too easy.
Defense too soft.
D can't get off the field.
The crowd is pathetic, probably no help to the team and the defense isn’t pressuring. If we let SMU sit back and throw what they want it’ll be a long afternoon.
I’m glad we have a great strength coach. Otherwise SMU would just run over us
Tech can't count again.
Nice stand.

I couldnt make it to the game today but looks like most everyone else couldnt either. Cant be more than 7-8,000 against what is supposed to be an attractive opponent. Oh well.
Back to back false starts on the 1 foot line
Harris is a stud.
But ineligible receiver.
This is a clean catch. Should be overturned.
But the C-USA booth guy blows the call.
And then the idiot center judge holds up play when Tech didn't sub.
At this point I guess this week Holtz is going to have to address brainless penalties.
We are not playing great but we have played much worse.
Best part of that drive was giving the D some rest. The lead is nice too.
An impressive drive after all the shit to start it. Our QB can play.
Don’t forget the questionable call for our man falling forward down field. How late was that flag?
99 yard drive. We got ourselves a QB. Good play calling. I smell a pick6.
The former player commentator just gets lost in what he's saying and it gets distracting.
Let's get a score before the half. That goaline stand and blocked PAT might comeback to haunt SMU
Uhoh, that 1 point lead gives Holtz his margin to play for a field goal later, haha
