Re: UT-Arlington Basketball
Didn't we just lose a coach to Georgia Tech?
Re: UT-Arlington Basketball
Cross was beloved by the DFW community. Ogden has a great rep, but will have some repairing to do to really tap into that local market. There are several DFW kids on the roster already, including a few xfers entering their 1st year of eligibility. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Jamie Dixon picked up 2 of the most revered coaches in the plex with Barker and Cross. They will start to get 1st dibs on the metroplex 4 and 5 stars.
To your bigger point, it was a very ballsy move by the AD. And if he cant follow up with some funding to INVEST like Gonzaga...then he will be AD at a NAIA in no time.

The top players in the metroplex will always head to top 10 schools, maybe TCU can land one or two and I guess that is all they need. SMU was starting to land the local guys with Larry Brown as coach, but not so much anymore.

Mostly true about the top players. But TCU will have a crack at them...whereas before they would not be genuinely considered. They picked up at least 3 of the top DFW kids from last 2 classes. Granted...2018 was weaker in DFW compared to previous classes.
And SMU had a chance to be the premier spot...but a series of bad offers to out of staters over locals sent them right back to the starting blocks. Now...with a loaded 2019 DFW class...they will likely miss out on most, if not all of the top kids. I dont see TCU making that same mistake.

Speaking of SMU (such a strange and snobby university), I can't believe they still don't have a baseball program. Nada!
Re: UT-Arlington Basketball
So, do you Texas dudes think UTA succeeds or fails?

Yes. Arguably our No. 1 recruiter, Coach Skinn, is changing Tech’s.
Why was he No.1? He was from DC . So are Bracey and Duruji. Coincidence?
Re: UT-Arlington Basketball
I think it will be MUCH harder to be successful at UTA than the AD thinks. The top of the SunBelt is no cakewalk. And being a 1-bid league allows for zero margin of error. Way too many variables in a season that can affect tourney. UTA owned ROAD wins over several P5 schools...slipped a couple times in conference. No tourney.
And SMU not having baseball is borderline negligent.

I agree in general. But... if leadership focuses on ONE thing, success probably follows. I don’t know if they are giving lip service, but firing a very successful alum indicates they are serious. It will b interesting to follow.
Re: UT-Arlington Basketball
UTA might make a bit of a "push", but I'd put the odds of their replicating Gonzaga's success as jus' about zero ...............................
They are way too far behind the curve; Gonzaga was doing the right things early-on before the landscape became so competitive in college basketball.
Also, Gonzaga has held on to Mark Few (outstanding h.c.) for 29 years (19 as h.c.).
I'd guess whoever is h.c. at UTA will jump for the big bucks rather than hanging around Arlington long enough to achieve that kind of success for the program.
Interesting side show, however, for sure ...................................

Do you have a link for this. I don't see one.
Re: UT-Arlington Basketball
I fail to see what UTA has in common with Gonzaga. UTA is a large city commuter school, with over 42,000 students, that focuses mostly on Business, Science, Research and Engineering. It has the 4th largest enrollment in the state of Texas.
On the other hand, Gonzaga is a private, liberal arts Jesuit school with a total enrollment of only 7,500 students, including only 5,200 undergrads.

You miss the point, HD. It's the basketball program they're talking about, not the school.
BTW, I'd put odds on that Scott Cross was actively shopping his success to date at UTA and looking to hop to a bigger job is why he got fired/replaced ?? Pre-emptive strike, so to say ??
