Going to be easy cheering for X even though he's a cowboy. Side note-- Trent is 7th Bulldog in history of Niners to be drafted

I think X has a great chance of making it with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys lost starting Safety Barry Church, and starting CB's Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne to free agency in the off season. Consequently, the Cowboys roster is very thin at both positions.

Xavier will come in and battle Jeff heath for the starting safety spot opposite (stud) Byron Jones

Also the #1 backup safety JJ Wilcoxis now a Buccaneer, and Xavier was the only safety drafted by the Boys. Trading up to get him says a ton.

Texas in general, and Dallas in particular, is a recruiting hotbed for college football. If X makes it big with the 'girls, and I think he will, then hopefully some high school players will make the connection of HS to Louisiana Tech to the NFL (especially for Texas kids who are surely 'girls' fans) and say to themselves, I should try this Louisiana Tech route too!

They already see the LA Tech->NFL connection. The HOD Bowl and Ft Worth Bowl did wonders for our DFW exposure! Plus it helps tremendously that Tech has a fulltime DFW HS recruiter (not just for student athletes of course) who is passionate about his job. All four of our current football commits (plus the decommit) are from the Dallas metro area. If we can keep stacking good DFW and Houston talent on top of Louisiana's- mercy! To your point, Xavier Woods can take this to a new level.

The top 5 states for the highest quality high school football are, in no particular order: Texas, Louisiana, California, Florida, and Georgia. Obviously, we are sitting in a great location with two of the top 5 states. Just think that Carlos Henderson was a lightly recruited kid out of New Orleans. Now he's off to an NFL career. Likewise for Trent Taylor. Kenneth Dixon, south Arkansas, Willie Roaf! another guy who managed to be missed by the P5s. Not every very good college player will end up in the NFL. But, they can enjoy great college careers, and can contribute to moving programs like Tech up the ladder.
Of course, most high school kids dream of an NFL career. The best of them know they are good, know they will play college football somewhere, and "know" they will have a chance to develop into a player the NFL will seek. Playing up that angle, even subtly, can help our recruiters sign some kids...

Well, LA Tech has now had back-to-back years of getting 3 players drafted. 6 players in 2 years. I'm sure there are a lot of Big 12 schools and other schools throughout our recruiting region that can't claim that. Skip Holtz and company should be able to capitalize on this now. They should be able to walk in to just about anybody's living room (in our recruiting area) and get serious attention from a recruit.

He'll likely get a UDFA deal. If not, the CFL will DEFINITELY be interested in him.

PLUS, they gave up next year's FIFTH round choice to select him in the SIXTH. Cowboys said he was in their top 60 BEFORE the draft started and couldn't believe their luck that he was still available.
The media over here thinks he is one of the biggest steals of the draft.

Congrats to him - we were lucky to get to see him play for the Dawgs - will never forget that run back in Dallas in the HOD Bowl....right before half.
