So . . . yes . . . we are stuck with him. Too bad they couldn't offer a transfer to someone like this: http://www.knoxtntoday.com/big-mike-is-moving-on/
Of course after you read what he was offered at his Gannettzoid newspaper you'd know why he retired.:
From Knoxville:
"Mike Strange has chosen retirement from the News Sentinel over a demotion cooked up by the foreign ownership group, Gannett.
“My role was being redefined as a non-columnist, helping out on football and being responsible for men’s hoops. I told them that 67 is too old to go back to being a beat writer.
“Their idea of helping out on football is shooting video, doing Facebook Live segments and, by the way, writing a little bit. The game story is going away and that is something I always put great stock in doing.”

Substitute the words, but the message remains the same...

Our peeps will continue to suck up to a bunch we don't need at Gannett.
Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
Simply put. I can remember when writing 6 stories for publication was expected.
Publication! Not posted online.

Yeah, it's all about saving the planet with less paper usage now...btw, do they still throw those stupid ad filled weeklys along with the Delta Style crap? No dead trees needed to print those I suppose.
Some would tell us we don't believe in Science since we love the (real) paper industry and dead pine trees more than we love the planet.:D

Today's Times: NWST is the sports front feature, LSU sidebar, that Grambling article below the fold...
Tech is nowhere to be found in The Times since last THURSDAY after the media tour of the press box except for a little ad Tech took out on Sunday. Not a single Tech article or even press release has been published in The Times in the last 5 days as if Tech isn't even having a fall camp!
There are multiple articles about each of LSU, NWST, and Grambling over that time period.
I'm with Pawdawg on this now. Time to cut all ties to Gannett. Our coverage is worse than pathetic. It's insulting.
Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
I found this online from two days ago:
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/story...eel/524213001/
But I've quit going to their website because I don't think we're getting a fair shake from them. Personally I think we are about to begin an extraordinarily good season. So they may (MAY) jump on the bandwagon as things start to evolve. If they ever give Tech the coverage they ought to, I would reconsider subscribing online. But there's going to have to be consistency.

That online article was never published in the newspaper. It was also a hard to find online because it was not published online on The Times' "Right Now" sidebar, which is the easiest place to find news.
That TNS article was just linked to The Times' headlines section as you can see the URL is the same as TNS except for the domain name. Whenever they do that, the article rarely if ever is published on the "Right Now" sidebar with all the news. The good news is that when they do that, Ferrell/Lang do not butcher the article.
And our Gannett coverage did not change for the better when we made the Top 25 run in 2012. I've never seen any evidence that these Gannett hacks will ever jump on the Tech bandwagon.
Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
As it stands right now, Gannett sucks as far as I'm concerned.
Re: New Gannett "beat writer" for Tech/Grambling/HS
Stop buying the paper. Stop paying for subscriptions. If you advertise with them, stop advertising in the paper. And for goodness sakes STOP linking the paper. They are getting your clicks (ad money) because you go to see what they wrote or didn't write. If you have to link them to talk about how bad they are at least use a do not track proxy first.
Money is the only thing that works with Gannett.
