Still one of the biggest ironies to me is the contrast between American professional sports and European soccer. Europe is known for being more socialist but Europe's soccer system of relegation, promotion, and open cups(basically playoffs over a whole year for every team) is completely opposite. You can get a group of friends together, make a team, and with hard work and good results you can eventually be playing against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, or Bayern Munich. The whole system is more like capitalism- if you fail, you go down but if you succeed you go up. However in American sports system if you fail, you get all the benefits put in your favor to bring you back up. if you succeed, then you're given the worst conditions after. Relegation and promotion would be huge for college football however if you thought there was money being pumped into college sports now. Just wait until Vanderbilt is threatened with relegation to CUSA. The would spend millions to insure that didn't happen when right now all they have to do is breathe and make good grades
