stodgdog. I can explain to you how it works....if anyone (SU fan, LA Tech fan, or anyone else) logs into their Ticketmaster account through the LA Tech Athletic Department's site, they may purchase tickets to the game. This is the method I used as well as other SU fans, LA Tech fans, and others used. No where during the purchase process was there a prompt saying "you must wait to purchase your ticket after all LA Tech fans purchase their tickets". In other words...my credit card numbers were entered and processed the same way LA Tech fans' and others' credit cards were processed. Revenue is revenue!!
This is why trying to estimate the number of Jaguar fans who have ALREADY purchased tickets based on ticket allotments sent to SU is a moot point. Who knows how many Jaguar fans have purchased tickets to this game by phone and online via LA Tech's Ticketmaster portal!!!!

SRO is not a bad problem to have. I do not doubt there will be negative comments following the game about long lines, limited seating, etc. IMHO these are problems that are good to have.

Now matter which way you cut it, SU will have more than 8000 in JAS come next Saturday night. Most of SU fans will have purchased their tix through variouis ticket outlets and not directly from SU. Aside from your season ticket holders, the other seats are fair game. Therefore, SU fans will be all over the place. We just might even exceed Tech fans in attendance since school has not yet started at Tech and some Tech fans have a disdain for playing FCS programs. You think NSU brought a ton of folk; you haven't seen anything yet!

All of the tickets on our East side except section OO and about 150 on sideline are general admission, sit where you want except for band. An overflow crowd with school not yet in session might see some Southern fans try to squeeze into the area where students usually sit. I suspect most Southern fans will be on that side along with the Tech fans but there will mostly be a natural separation by school.

We were not that impressed by the crowd NSU brought. Probably 1200 compared to our near 25,000. Still no mention of anything being set up in the end zone for overflow next weekend. When seats are gone that is all. If we have our usual crowd of Tech fans there won't be room for 4,000 from Southern, much less 8,000. I hope everyone has a safe trip from wherever. I hope you enjoy Ruston. You will get friendly service at any local establishment you try out. I completely believe everything you guys have said about the crowd you will bring to Ruston and Tech. To have over 30% of our home stadium be visiting fans for our first game with a new facility to show off and the promise of a great season is hard to fathom and won't be the case.

Tech averaged just over 17,000 last season, and with school not yet having started, even with opening of DAC, your numbers will a little down for this game. Those extra seats will be occupied by SU fans. We purchased our tix directly from the Tech Ticket Office and Tech has no idea which school we represent. I'm telling you, thousands of your seats will occupied by your visitors.

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
Tech averaged over 20K last season and nearly 19K the year before. This game will sell out but it will be ~22K Tech + 7K Southern. In the 3rd Qtr it will be Tech 10K + Southern 1K. The first home game is always well attended by Tech fans.

I wouldn't exactly say we weren't impressed by NSU's crowd. They traveled pretty good, as you can see in this photo:

I remember rumors floating that NSU would bring thousands because it was this great rivalry renewed. They were well represented but less than the rumors. Either way, let's get those last few seats sold to true blue Tech fans so we don't have to hear anything from SU folk on Sunday morning!

My family will be at the game via seats from Community Bank and Trust!

Wonder if the reverse is true in this case. Many fans, the more casual variety, might be saying, ya know....there's gonna be a big crowd, so Tech doesn't need me to help attendance. And besides, it will be hot (6PM kickoffs prior to October is stupid in the deep South. Should be 7:30 or later), they will run out of ice and water, and other stuff. Traffic will suck. I'm staying home for this one.

There is no question that the heat may play a factor...
The fact that the students aren't in town will make an impact possibly as well...
Dispite that all, the locals need to know that something very special will be going on in town and they hopefully will not want to miss it!
The JOE will be the place to be at on Sept. 5th!

Awesome NEWS Earl!

Scalpers at a Tech game? Starting price must be at least $100 a seat! (;-)

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
Several events have been planned, I am told, to welcome Southern University to Northeast Louisiana. SU alumni chapters in Northeast Louisiana (Morehouse, Ouachita, Caddo, Bossier and Lincoln) will sponsor a Meet & Greet Social Hour at the Robinson Museum on the GSU campus on Friday evening. Also, I understand that a concert has been planned in Monroe (not sure of the venue) on Friday night as well. People in Monroe are really excited to have Southern make an appearance in Northeast Louisiana. Thousands will show up just for the tailgating even if they do not get into the game. Some Jag fans will come from as far away as llinois and Florida.

With that being said, I guess my sources aren't as reliable as I thought. But for some reason, I know people who are looking for tix thinking the game is sold out. Where is that informaton is coming from?

If you go to ticketmaster (as of now):

On sale date and time are in the works - please check back!
Not sure who is at fault here, but this page should be active.

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
I keep seeing statements along the lines of "Tech won't have a big crowd because school hasn't started." But what you fail to realize is starting Friday is "move in weekend" for Tech students. So there will be more people associated with Tech in Ruston this weekend than normal. During move in weekends in the past Tech has had very good numbers from students because parents and siblings of said students also attend.
-
Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
So, did we find out if Ticket Master was up and are tickets still availible?
I am sick about being so far away from Ruston on weekends like the one coming up!

This! There will be plenty of first-timers at this game. It will be an extraordinary atmosphere until the end of the first quarter.

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
Report: Louisiana Tech expecting near-sellout crowd Saturday, including healthy showing from Southern fans
Sep 2, 2015 1:22 PM | Advocate staff report
Jaguar Nation, represent!
Louisiana Tech is expecting one of the largest crowds ever in Joe Aillet Stadium when Tech plays host to Southern at 6 p.m. in Saturday’s season opener, according to The News-Star newspaper.
Tech athletic director Tommy McClelland told The News-Star that a max capacity of crowd of 28,019 is possible at the recently expanded stadium. And Southern fans should make up a pretty good percentage of that — anywhere from 6,000 to 8,000 fans, by McClelland’s estimate.
Meanwhile, Southern coach Dawson Odums said this week that he is well aware of the challenge of playing at Louisiana Tech.
“(Louisiana Tech is) a level up from us, and just to have the opportunity to play in that kind of environment should create some excitement and should get you ready to play,” Odums said. “I think La. Tech is a worthy opponent. They’re a good program, and you have to come in with the right mindset. I think when you do that, you give yourself a chance.”

I read on another thread that there were still tickets available ( a few GA tix and other more expensive tix). The walk-up traffic on Friday and Saturday will consume all of the remaining tix. I fully expect Tech to sell standing room only spaces where available. Many SU fans traveling from South Louisiana will attempt to purchase tickets Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Might want to tell the walk up crowd that the ticket office will close Friday afternoon at 5, I assume. It will reopen at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon and remain open til game time.

Does anybody know if the administration is alotting the Southern contingent a designated area to allow for RV's tailgate etc.? With the crowd they will have the green space where Nielson and Caruthers used to be would allow them ample space for both RV and tailgating, and proximity to the stadium is closer than those who pack the lots at RHS.

....and we shouldn't have to tell Tech this either. Where's their common sense?

I'm assuming that the TAC isn't far from the football stadium?

Its right there. The TAC is the giant air filter looking thing right by the stadium in any aerial photo.

A pitching wedge or a 9-iron depending on your swing.

From the gates of JAS, it's an elevated shot. Definitely a 9 iron.

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
Assuming they do as usual the TAC will be open so it will be a refuge for us to go to get a break from the heat and also bathroom facilities. As others mentioned, its a very short walk up the hill.

Thanks. My other assumption is that the will call tickets are picked up there also?

Hopefully all 8,000 of you don't go at the same time.

Also if you want, you can print the ticket out at home. Considering just how many people will probably be walking up to pick up their will call tickets tomorrow, its probably the smarter idea. Its what I did for the ticket I purchased.

I just checked my email from yesterday and see that we have fireworks after the game. Why does this concern me?

Hey I'm driving around on the golf cart with the SU and Kappa flags on it.

McClelland must really like fireworks.:rolleyes4::laugh:That's a huge waste of LTAC money. Does he think fireworks draws people to the game?

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
If increasing attendance is the purpose of fireworks, this wasn't the game to do it IMO.

We only schedule fireworks for the end of a game we are sure to win. :bomb:

Cost of fireworks was donated.

Statboy, Earle and SU fans. Great to have you in Ruston and it's been fun reading all the comments on this thread. Great to see how well SU fans travel and your band and dancers were great. I hope the rest of your season goes better and you win out.

Thank you! Congratulations on the win! We weren't supposed to win and, frankly, I didn't expect us to, but I also did not think the score would be so lopsided. Hope you guys win your conference and go to the Fiesta Bowl, as you desire. The pre-game atmosphere was off the chains, and I had a wonderful all-around experience except for the parking situation. I had to park way too far away from the stadium than is practical or reasonable. I don't think your campus is designed to accomodate some 8000 visitors in additoon to your own fanbase. But overall, wonderful experience, and good luck the rest of the way!
