For you old timers, the band use to sit in the upper section on the 50 yd line in the latter half of the 70's.

I do know, acouple of them are my friends, that they do run before band camp starts, getting around 30 minutes straight of jogging before band camp starts, to get in shape. I think the whole band should do something like this....it would really cut on heat related problems.
I'll probably get some red for that...
that's funny. when i was there, all the trumpets were chain smokers.

Nah, no red from me. But i do dissagree with you. I am friends with just about all of the current trumpet players but i still think its a sh*tty thing to do. I know one thing we always try to stress in the drumline is to "save your chops".(ya know, since we play literally ALL DAY)
If you just play at a reasonable volume and dont try to overplay, and you have experienced lips(sounds dirty), i dont see how playing the fight song a couple of times would tire your lips out that fast.
But my beef with it is, playing your instrument is what you are there for. If you cant handle the amount of playing that is REQUIRED of you, then thats your fault for poor preparation.
IMHO

we do?
you have to have some chops before you can save them........
and secondly; if you have chops and warm up properly; you can play all day long (as a percussionist);
just my two cents; but hey; what do i know
Re: Band at football games
Regardless of where the band ends up, be assured The Blue will be right there with them, backing them up all the way!

It's harder on your lips to play French Horn than the trumpet, and we didn't take time off. The people in front of me prolly wish that I would have. :icon_wink:
Anytime that people transfer over to play mellophone for marching season, they almost always have to bring their trumpet mouthpiece because they can't handle the horn mouthpiece.

What shows are you guys doing?
