Waaaaaay less to do in town, but it's a pretty nice lake. You can hike some, maybe climb Sugar Loaf. Fish the Little Red....

Yeah, Heber Springs doesn't offer what Hot Springs does, but it's still prettier than anyplace you'd go in North Louisiana. Plus you could catch a record trout or take the family out to The Red Apple...
It's a little farther for you, but from Central Arkansas when you don't go to Hot Springs to go "to the lake" you go to Greers Ferry. Probably just as crowded on the 4th as Hot Springs, but you could...
