Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

Cutie. I was there a few years before you. What's left? Men's dorms -- Mitchell (scheduled to be demolished), Robinson, Cottingham, Richardson, Jenkins and McFarland (being used for God knows...

That's where I saw it. Just a short little blurb in the last sentence,

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

I just saw in the on line Tech Talk that Harper and Pierce were to be demolished. Has this been announced earlier?

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

I really didn't think there was still a cafeteria there, and I believe you're right about the classroom.

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

By the way I think it's ironic that the oldest cafeteria has been renovated and is being used. Is there still a cafeteria in Adams?

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

I know of no plans to demolish Wilson. If it is being used and is in good conditions there is no reason to demolish it except that it's part of the late 60s F.J. Taylor building spree. Buildings...

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

Over and around the existing old pool built in the 60s. Next to go should be the old Wilson Cafeteria. I guess they're still using it for the art dept. or something.

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

Agree. My house was a "custom built" (not for me) back about 1981. If an architect reviewed the plans he was pretty sorry. Doors don't swing the right way, outlets and light switches in the wrong...

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

I would think that any company who does building demolishing would have one on staff. They aren't hiring "frick and frack" acme building demolishing are they?

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

The constant vibration when trains passed could not have been good for the brick and mortar.

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

I remember Madison used to vibrate like that. I thought it was just the steel beam construction. Neither Carruthers or Nielsen did that and I assumed it was because they were reinforced concrete...

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

Wyly wasn't there when I was there. The newest class room building were Madison and Niethken. Since I left they have torn down Old Lomax Hall, Kidd, Hale, Old Business Building, Carruthers,...

Re: Wyly Tower to be demolished

Harper will be the last high rise. I can't remember if we could see it or not. With Nielsen, Carruthers and now Wyly gone you might be able to see it from the stadium.
